The Detroit Tigers appear to have added one of the best relief pitchers in the majors last season.

According to an ESPN report, the Tigers have agreed to terms on a three-year, $16.5 million contract with right-hander Joaquin Benoit.

The 33-year-old will reportedly earn $5.5 million a season with an additional $1 million a season in incentives.

In 2010, Benoit, who was the Tampa Bay Rays setup man, posted a 1.34 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched. He recorded 75 strikeouts and 11 walks.

Horrible deal. One good year doesn't warrant this at all, especially since he's just going to be setting up Valverde.

He's not just going to be a set up guy, hes going to do some middle relief for us too. Couple innings here and there.

makes it even worse
middle relief guys shouldnt be getting 16M
Tigers could have gotten someone else for a lot cheaper to be a middle reliever

Good signing, but for awful money. Benoit has always been a pretty solid guy in the pen, but not 5.5 mil solid.

At least someone sees this lol.
You get to the 7th/8th inning with a lead, it will be nearly impossible for a team to beat us now.
