I think that since Dallas, Houston and SF all have horrible football teams, the ratings for this WS will actually be respectable.

San Francisco is a football town i think, but they LOVE the Giants. it's probably split between niners and giants actually.

they're getting huge ratings up there even if the niners were good

I like the Rangers in this series because I feel that the Rangers have a much more potent lineup to compete against the Giants. Cliff Lee also pitched in the NL so he knows his way around against NL hitting. I just really like Young, Cruz, Vlad, and Hamilton over Posey, Huff, and Ross. I think if Big Panda can step it up he can be the x-factor in this series. Gonna be rooting for the Giants though cuz I love Big Time Timmy Jims and Edgar Renteria.

Im rooting for the Giants here. Should be an interesting series.

And as good as Tim Lincecum is, he should never come out of the bullpen again.

P.S. Wilson has sick swag.

This isn't going to be the lowest rated World Series... Texas is a huge market, and so is California.
The entire state of California doesn't watch baseball just because the Giants are playing. Even if, California and Texas only account for 2 states out of 50. No Red Sox and no Yankees automatically means no game in the series will even touch 20 million viewers. You could make a case for both franchise's fanbases being super stoked and Texas in their first postseason success....but Phillies/Rays was a mere 13 mill viewer per game average.

No one east of the mississipi will watch it because its 2 teams from the west coast and we dont know as much about those teams since they are so late when their games start. Sure there will be people on the east coast that watch it, but not enough. Ratings are just not going to be that good, NFL is in full swing and the NBA is about to start so I dont expect high ratings.

The NFL is 2 days out of the entire week.

Plenty of people will watch this World Series. Everyone always thinks that a World Series is only watched if two popular teams are in it. Not always true. If the Ratings are poor, it's not because of whose in it but because people don't like the commentators. Look at the Ratings over a 30 year span. Television and electronics continue to grow but ever since FOX took it over in 2000 with the 10-year contract, viewership was never the same.

2004 only brought in that many viewers because the Red Sox had finally gotten back to the World Series and so manny people wanted to witness history.

My point is, if nobody watches it will be because of the Network, not the teams.

That's rediculous to assume that. Now I love Joe Buck about as much as I'd love another hole in my ass but even as annoying as he is, people will the game if they have interest in seeing the results of the 2 teams playing in it. The NFL, NBA, NHL, all major sports feature the good, the bad, the ugly coverage but outside of the time a game is played & availability of the network, your argument is off-base.

Read my previous post again, because I mentioned that plenty of people will watch the World Series because of the two teams in it, and state later that many people will not watch it because of the Network. Am I 100% sure of that? Not at all -- but the numbers prove it. With the way that television keeps growing each and every year, and technology advances so much, you'd expect the ratings to go up no matter what.

A previous post in this topic said that because of the teams it will never hit 20,000,000 viewers -- I'm assuming he means on average, because theres no way less than 10M people watch each game. But the last time the World Series hit 20MM viewers was in 2004, when the Red Sox played. That game had a rating over 15.0 which is great. The next year was an 11.1 rating, and just over 17MM viewers (avg). Last year, with the YAnkees and Phillies in the World Series, the rating was only an 11.7 -- no official word yet on how many viewers in total, but based on previous ratings it only averaged probably 18 Million Viewers in the US.

Which also smacks a previous post in this thread, right in the face, about how if the Yankees aren't in the World Series it wont hit 20 Million. Even with the Yankees in it, it won't hit 20 Million. It's probably because of the network.

Read my previous post where I said: "No Yankees and no Red Sox means no game will hit 20 million viewers." I'm well aware of the television ratings of every World Series since 1984 and I'm also well aware that there's no bigger group of viewers than the Yankee haters all over the country that watch the World Series to see the Yankees lose. Combine those people with the massive Yankee fan base and you have something much larger than the 13-15 million viewer average of any other World Series.

But back to the point, I don't think who's announcing the game has much of an effect on television ratings. Availability of the network and time of game, yes, that could keep millions of people from watching. We've all dealt with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver long enough and they aren't what keeps people from wanting to watch the Tampa Bay Rays in the Fall Classic.

but there wasn't a large viewership of the series LAST YEAR. WHEN THE YANKEES WERE IN IT
