NFL hits Browns safety Ward with fine for blow on Shipley
Associated Press

BEREA, Ohio -- T.J. Ward's "cheap shot" was costly.

For delivering a nasty blow to an opponent's head, the NFL belted the Cleveland Browns' rookie safety in the wallet.

Ward, who in just four games as a pro has developed a reputation as a ferocious tackler and fearless talker, was fined $15,000 Wednesday for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jordan Shipley during the fourth quarter of the Browns' win on Sunday.

Ward confirmed he was fined, but he wouldn't divulge the amount. However, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the league assessed Ward the $15,000 penalty for ramming Shipley, who was knocked out briefly and sustained a concussion.

The league will not announce its discipline on Ward until Friday.

So Suh gets fined 7.5K for trying to rip a guys head off literally and Ward gets fined double that for just leading with his shoulder? Cool system

He hit a defenseless player with his shoulder extremely hard to the head.
As bad as what Suh did, I don't see the potential of injury to what he did to Delhomme. Where as Ward could of ended the kids career with that blow to the head.

I hope that's the Detroit fan in you because, if that's how you feel, you clearly haven't had your head wrenched around like that or know anyone who has. Suh could have caused as much harm to Delhomme as Ward's hit on Shipley.

Man I'd rather have a <Censored>ty headache than have my neck ###### like that any day of the week.

Anyone have the video of this hit?

What does off the field stuff have to do with the hits I was talking about? lol

Rob Ryan:
“I know the kid (Ward) is disappointed they called a penalty on that play,” Ryan said. “We saw it as a bang-bang play. He made a great read. He went to knock the hell out of the guy on third down in the red zone and that’s how we teach. You teach to hit properly. The young man didn’t lead with his head. He’s hitting him the way we team them.

“Then there’s a big hullabaloo about this penalty. Those guys need to shut up. This is our team. They don’t coach our team. We do.”

Then Ryan glanced at a post-it note he took with him to the lectern in the media room.

“If they want to worry about a cheap shot, they ought to look at — oh, let me see (glancing at his note) — first-and-10 on the 35, third quarter, 4:24 left, and watch their guard, Nate Livings.

“Our kid played great the whole game and they want to (complain) about him because he hit a guy in the face. This kid (Livings) hits our guy (Scott Fujita) in the back after he got a sack and forced fumble and a blocked field goal over him. This kid dives and hits (Fujita) in the back of the legs. So you want to talk about cheap, talk about this (expletive). Excuse me, Nate Livings.”

Ryan said his defenses are near the top of the least penalized defenses in the NFL.

“We teach a hard, tough brand of football,” Ryan said. “People think we’re out to hurt them. We’re out to hit them. We’re not out to hurt or maim anybody. We’re out to hit them and they’re going to get hit. I think we took Cincinnati’s best shot and we won. That’s the facts.”

Rob Ryan will be crying when his secondary gets torched week 15, he'll have something else to talk about.

It would of been a different story if Suh held on to the facemask while throwing him down. Honestly I watched it like 3 times and it just looks 10x worse than it actually was. And that can be seen by how easily Delhomme got up. Whereas Shipley stayed down..

We can say could all we want.
