Don't get me wrong, I think this is a good move for both sides when looking at it short-term. When going long-term, Pats benefit more than the Vikings. If the Vikings come to a contract agreement with Moss in the next few weeks, I think that hurts them because hes in his mid 30s. If he ends up a Free Agent after this season, it doesn't hurt Minny at all because they would have basically used Moss as a rental which is fine for me, especially seeing as right now Moss is still one of the better receivers in the NFL and was acquired for only a 3rd round pick.

When I mentioned the 3rd round pick and their future at QB, I wasn't trying to connect the two. My point was the Pats got something in return and now have younger guys to get an idea of as to how they fill in Moss' shoes -- but in Moss' position I think this sucks for him. If Minnesota offers him the money he wants should he take it? Knowing in the next year or two that he may be the #1 receiver on this team and hauling in less catches from a rookie the team drafts? Does he want that?

Lmao dude Moss <Censored>s on us when he plays us.
Sure in the past. But before Welker and Edleman werent on the field at the same time. Now they will be. Plus, the Pats <Censored> on everyone lol. Moss didn't even have a catch last week and they owned.

Lol titan welker and edelman are going to be nothing with out moss. Welker will be decent but now they have no true deep threat. And once sidney rice comes back for the vikings they will have two deep threats plus percy. This trade is absolutely a win for the vikings.

Are you kidding?
How about Aaron Hernandez and Brandon Tate?
Tate is really gonna emerge.
I'm really excited to see Welker, Edleman, Tate and Hernandez on the field at once.

C'mon guys. How don't you see it?
Revis is right. Moss is a slouch. Sure he's great, but only when he actually is going 100%, which is like half the time. Plus, he was fighting with the QB coach apparently too. I love Moss, but his attitude stinks.

In a few weeks you'll all see the Pats won't be affected at all.

They won't be effected that much because they have the one of the best QBs in NFL history.. But that doesn't mean Randy Moss doesn't try or that the team is better without him..

Brady does help. That's obvious. But yes, Moss doesn't try all the time. He try's when he wants to. I totally agree with Revis on that.

Like someone said b4, Brandon Tate will probably be that deep threat now. I dont follow the Patriots but I got a friend who is a die-hard Patriots fan. He told me Tate is the guy that will be the 2nd wideout most of the time and that this guy is now expected to emerge as a big weapon for the Patriots. This will hurt Welker this year, but if Tate develops and catches some eyes the field will open up again for Welker in 2011 season.

It's pathetic, but that's how the NFL is today. If you play a skill position, you feel as if you are entitled to get the ball every time. You feel that you are the best in the league. You feel that you are uncoverable. When your team disagrees and doesn't look your way, or has you as the 3rd or 4th read on a particular play, these divas in the NFL don't run their routes as hard/fast/clean. It's sad, but I'd say 75% of players feel that way.

Can the Patriots win without Moss? Yes.
Do the Patriots have solid options remaining without Moss? Yes.
Are the Patriots better off without Moss? <Censored> no.

Moss opens up defenses. He demands two players on him AT ALL TIMES. Whether he is at his best and is sprinting down the field, or he's taking a play off - that leaves one less safety/corner to cover everyone else. Wes Welker is still a great receiver, his routes, toughness, hands are all great. But having Moss running down the field sure as hell has helped make him into this 100+ catch stud that he's been these past few years. It's tough to cover a fast TE like Aaron Hernandez when you already have a safety, who might be normally be covering the TE, on Randy. Randy Moss opens the field, period.

Perhaps Randy Moss was causing problems in the lockerroom, and that cannot be tolerated - especially in the last year of a contract. Clearly, the Patriots hand was forced and they had to trade Randy Moss for a 3rd (they traded a 4th for him originally, and got a few years of usage out of him in between) so to the mastermind Bill Belichek, they clearly don't give a <Censored>. It is a GREAT trade for the Vikings, who got Randy Moss for less than they would have had to give up for Vincent Jackson (whose problems go off the field, while Randy is the better player and no legal problems). The Patriots either had to cut or trade Randy, so facing that sad reality, they had to do this. It isn't that bad for them - but saying that they are better without them is complete stupidity.

Patriots win this trade because Moss was just not working in the locker room so that is 1 less distraction for them during the week. They also dont have to pay a hefty sum of money to an old and declining WR. 12 games now that he has 80 yards or less. And finally think about what Belichick is known for, DEFENSE. He is going to shore up that defense even more with all these draft picks he has this year and the money that he can use on players during free agency.

Good move by the Vikings as well, but thats if they reach the Super Bowl. Anything short of that and they lose this trade.

For those who said the Patriots can't win without Moss...do we even need to mention the receivers they won their championships with?

QFT.
I list just in case.
David Givens, Deion Branch, Troy Brown, David Patten , Bethel Johnson, and Christian Fauria at TE.

I'm appalled. But Favre and Moss would be an intriguing pair
