SAN FRANCISCO -- New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush had to leave Monday night's 25-22 victory over San Francisco in the fourth quarter with an injured right leg.

The Saints did not know the severity of the injury immediately following the game. Bush had an ice bag wrapped around his right leg in the locker room and was using crutches to get around.

"I'm just trying not to think the worst and just try to stay as positive as I can in this situation," Bush said. "That's all you can do, hope for the best."

Bush said he would likely get X-rays after the team returned to New Orleans.

Bush hurt himself after recovering his muffed punt with 6:58 remaining. He had trouble catching the ball at windy Candlestick Park and was hurt diving to cover up the loose ball.

"Last second it kind of shifted a little bit, just enough for me to drop it," he said. "I tried to recover it and somebody took my leg out. I don't know who it was, what happened or how it happened. I just know my leg got taken out. That's it."

He was tended to by trainers and then tried to walk off the field favoring his right leg. He fell back to the turf and was worked on again before being helped off the field.

"It hurt like hell," he said. "When I got back up and tried to walk on it, it felt terrible. That's all I can say."

Bush was taken on a cart to the locker room shortly after the injury, getting hugs from his teammates. Owner Tom Benson came up to Bush in the locker room to offer words of encouragement as well.

The injury capped a difficult past few days for Bush, who gave back his Heisman Trophy last Tuesday. The NCAA punished USC after concluding that Bush and his family took money and gifts from sports agents while Bush played for the Trojans. Bush said he returned the award to end the controversy.

"It's been a pretty tough week," he said. "It's just the way life goes."

There were some highlights for Bush in his first game since giving back the trophy. He caught a 6-yard touchdown pass on New Orleans' opening drive and set up a field goal with a 43-yard punt return on the final play of the third quarter.

Bush finished with 4 yards on five carries. He also had 30 yards on four receptions.
I'm never going to say I'm happy to see a guy get hurt, but if someone did deserve it, it would be Mr.Bush.

Look at what he did to USC. He set that school back years with look at the recruits they lost, not to mention the two year bowl ban. All because he's a selfish fool.

I know he's not the only one, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Reggie Bush isn't that important to the Saints.

Time to revisit this thread.

It's clear that the Saints offense lacks explosiveness without Reggie. He may not be responsible for the huge plays down field, decoys aside, the Saints miss the busted play 1st downs Reggie gets us. There's a gray area that having Reggie allows us to faulter in other areas of the game. Without Reggie, we have to be prefect and maintain the affectiveness on offense. That is why last year we did fine without him and this year we haven't. We need him to cover up some problems we're having with our OL and WR's seperation from DB's. He helps with both.

Along with Reggie, we miss Pierre and the aspect he brings in the screen game. The screen was one of the Saints best plays last season, and without him or Reggie, we have nobody to run it.

Imagine if the Lakers suddenly couldn't isolate Kobe for 30% of their offense, that is what is happening to us losing both Reggie and Pierre. There is no way to make up what we're missing there, especially with the lackluster play.

You ever heard Sean Payton talk about Reggie? He loves him.

Also I'll add, being mad at Reggie Bush for what he did at a very young age is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I have a feeling if percentages came out to the number of kids on that USC team that broke rules people would be blown away. You don't think Matt Leinart ever did anything illegal? Since LSU is the biggest school around where I live, I'll use them. Do you think JaMarcus Russell never took gifts? Glenn Dorsey? Laron Landry? What about guys like Drake Nevis, Kelvin Sheppard, and Patrick Peterson now? Have you ever seen any of these guys outside of football pads? Most college football players come from poverty, how do you explain the watches, shoes, , jewelry, namebrand items they wear each and every day? If you want to be mad at someone, don't be mad at a kid, be mad at the grown ass man who gave him gifts when he knew it was illegal. Your just being naive if you think Pete Carroll didn't know Reggie was recieving gifts.
