Profootballtalk.com reports that the Jets are close to signing C Nick Mangold to a contract extension.
Both Kremer and Profootballtalk's Mike Florio continued to throw cold water on rumors of a Darrelle Revis extension, as a Mangold deal is currently on the Jets' front burner. The Revis report initially appeared on Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw's Twitter page. It's possible Cowlishaw's "source" mixed up an imminent announcement of Mangold's deal with one for Revis. Cowlishaw claimed an announcement would be coming this week. Aug. 22 - 6:51 pm et
No news on Revis.. so let's go get Mangold locked up, ha. Mangold has played pretty solid for the Jets, and it's a good thing they will get him locked up in another deal. They just need one piece, wearing 24 to sign..

No Revis, no playoffs

I can agree with that. I have them underachieving with Revis this year, anyways. The loss of Revis could put them on the fringe, where I see a lot of AFC teams ending up. So yeah, I agree.

They're extending Mangold first because he's easier to sign back, not because he's there playing.

hey revis. see what happens when you stfu and play.
Seriously. A lot of analysts are pretty sure that the Revis situation will work it's way out though. Hopefully they're right.

He's saying you can still get the contract you want without holding out.

It might have some thing to do with it but he's also a center and isn't going to come close in the guaranteed money Revis wants/will eventually get.

Well, here it is:

Jets agreed to terms with C Nick Mangold on a new seven-year, $55 million contract.
Guarantees haven't been finalized so the deal isn't done quite yet, but the $7.86 million annual average tops Jason Brown of the Rams' $7.5 million yearly take to make Mangold the highest paid center in football. Now under contract through his age-32 season, Mangold has emerged over the past two seasons as the NFL's premier center on the league's premier run-blocking line. It's good news for Shonn Greene.
