I've heard some dumb <Censored> before, but this post takes the prize.
explain

cause at the time of the post, the Rays were in 1st place, and on opening day, the Yankees had about $137M more to their payroll. probably even higher now with the additions they made

I understand that you hate the Yankees, and you are likely are one of those LA blowhards who cries payroll when the Yankees are dominating. The Rays have sucked for over a decade, they racked up numerous #1 picks and over 1000 losses during that time span. That's nearly as much of an advantage as "buying all of the good players".

The Rays spent the past two months in second place and now they are the WS favorites? Not a chance.

The Rockies have placed first baseman Todd Helton on waivers, according to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

"It's very difficult to imagine Helton getting claimed or dealt, given the year he's had and the fact that his contract got extended before the season," Stark points out.

The Red Sox have placed infielder Mike Lowell on waivers, according to ESPN.com's Keith Law.

If Kevin Youkilis ends up being out for the rest of the season, Boston might actually end up needing Lowell. Placing a player on waivers is a customary practice in August and rarely leads to a player changing addresses.

The Mariners have traded first baseman and designated hitter Mike Sweeney to the Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

A person with knowledge of the deal confirmed it to The Associated Press on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because the trade had yet to be announced.

How is losing for 10+ years and racking up #1 picks as much as an advantage of having the biggest payroll in the MLB? (Where you can win every year).

and the Pugz posts

Helton blows. no one will claim him, he's probably put on waivers every year. no big deal

Lowell is old, but with Youk on the DL, they're keeping him like the snip suggests

and good move for Philly. Sweeney is better than COdy Ransom at 1st lol
and should be a great bat off the bench when Howard is back

The waiver things might as well not even be news. Almost every play goes on waivers at some point after the deadline. The Red Sox even have Paplebon on waivers. It's just something everyone does because the waiver system is easily controllable. After people make their claims and they aren't willing to give the motherload, you pull them off waivers.

Raburn kept us in the game, then lost it for us. Kudos to him.

Next 9 games will determine if we can make a run or not. If we go 6-3 vs the Phillies and Rockies we can start to make some ground. If we end up 7.5 back still after that then its over. There is still some time, but this is our last hope.

holy <Censored>, the Marlins commentators need to learn how to keep their composure, they're just ripping into the 3rd base ump

I mean it was a terrible call, but normal commentators would just point it out rather than <Censored>ting their pants

Red Sox are just screwed with all these injuries. Thankfully Ortiz is having a comeback season

Adam Dunn was claimed on trade waivers on Thursday, one major league source told FOXSports.com.

If the Nationals wish to trade Dunn, they will have to do so while negotiating with only one club, between now and Monday afternoon.

Trade waivers are procedural, so this in no way indicates that the Nationals are eager to move Dunn. He is still on the active roster.
