Amare looking like he could be staying in Phoenix. Working on a 5 year deal, saying it won't be max but more than anyone else can offer him.

DALLAS (AP)—Dirk Nowitzki saved the Dallas Mavericks a trip to Germany, a sign the team’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder might not be a free agent for long.

Mavericks president Donnie Nelson said he was moments away from boarding a plane for Nowitzki’s homeland Wednesday when the former MVP’s adviser called to say they were flying to Dallas instead.

The SMH moment of the day goes to the Bucks and the T-Wolves. Congratulations.

Well was anyone surprised by the T-Wolves? Kahn is probably the worst GM in the league.

UPDATE: A person with knowledge of the process said the Hawks are to meet with J.J. again in L.A. with the expectation that the two sides will work out the details of a contract agreement.

Rudy Gay and the Grizzlies are close to agreeing to an $80 million extension.

Gay has begun canceling his meetings with other teams.
Gay is getting paid. Didn't see that coming from Memphis.

Was just about to post that. Good move by them keeping him. He is one of the better players in the league that not many people talk about, IMO.

Amare Stoudemire now appears to be a long shot to return to Phoenix after opting out of the last year of his contract and negotiations on a new deal with Suns owner Robert Sarver broke off late Tuesday night, a source said.
Like I thought. He won't be back.

Also:

Rudy Gay has agreed to a five-year, $81.6 million deal with Memphis, including a player option on fifth, his reps at Octagon confirmed to Y!

With Darko Milicic in agreement on a four-year extension, the Wolves will increase their efforts to trade Al Jefferson.

Minnesota is hoping to use Jefferson as trade bait in a deal with the Knicks or Grizzlies, according to sources.

Of course, the Pistons probably won't even try a tiny bit to grab Al.

Jul 1, 2010 - Although NBA free agency got started today, things have been pretty quiet here in Pistons country, mainly because Detroit isn't exactly in a position to go after any of the big-name players on the open market. Even so, one interesting rumor has generated a little buzz because it involves the possibility of the Pistons getting rid of Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

From Jason Lloyd, the Cavaliers' beat writer for the Akron Beacon Journal:

Dark horse trade partner for #Cavs are the #Pistons. Sources say Detroit is looking to unload Gordon and Charlie V after only 1 year.
Take it for what it's worth, I suppose. I certainly don't doubt that the Pistons would be interested in making a move that involves Gordon and/or Villanueva, but I just have a hard time believing they would be able to find a trade partner. Then again, anything seems possible in the NBA as teams clear cap space or take on salaries, so never say never, I guess.
For what?

Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars wants to be busy this offseason.
The Pistons are not expected to be major players in the free agency period that began Thursay. Dumars' best shot at making a splash this summer seems to be tied to trading Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton.
The Pistons are about $10 million under the salary cap, including the midlevel exception that should help them sign a solid veteran. Detroit didn't make the playoffs last season for the first time since 2001 and had its second-lowest victory total in three decades.
Dumars was determined to add size in last week's draft and he did, taking Georgetown's Greg Monroe at No. 7 overall. The Hall of Fame player knows he still has work to do.
