The Atlanta Hawks will offer Joe Johnson a maximum contract for six seasons at the beginning of free agency, according to a source that spoke with Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

So looks like JJ is staying in ATL

I think its a done deal Bosh goes to Miami and Wade is going to stay as long as they sign him some help, if they drop the ball on that, I can see him leaving.

That leaves us Amare, Booz (BOOOO!!!)and LeBron as potential targets

I think we'll sign Amare without a doubt, and if we lose out on LBJ then I think best bet is to save the rest of that money and go after CP3 and Deron Williams in 2012, Im sure Amare wouldnt mind waiting lol

Sources say 3 way trade between #Bucks #Cavs #Nets. Redd to Cavs, Harris to Bucks, Ilyasova, Jamison to Nets. Possible more involved.
From the Nets beat writer.. Probably wont happen imo.. but anyway no idea why the Nets would do this (thats why I question it), but as a Cavs fan I'd welcome this.. Get an expiring contract for next season, get rid of Jamison so we can start Hickson and play him 30 minutes a game.

The Nets are hoping to sign LeBron James, but they do have alternative plans.

They will meet Friday with Dwyane Wade and with Chris Bosh . They will then meet with Amar’e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer, David Lee and restricted free agent Rudy Gay. Dirk Nowitzki, a former player for Johnson, opted out of his Mavericks contract on Tuesday.

The Nets are confident they will at least be able to sign Stoudemire and Gay.

If JJ passes up on an extra 30 mil. Then I'm officially concerned about his mental health

Why would you be? He's already a very rich man (obviously) has it is, none of these players actually need money. He should take his best shot to win a ring, which is not in Atlanta.

His rumored destinations are New York and New Jersey.. That's not even close to the best possible shot to win. He said New York is near the top, and he wants the full max from Atlanta. He's about money.

To be fair, Atlanta without Johnson is not a playoff team. If Johnson goes to NY and they get another star player with him, that team is better than Atlanta (with Johnson) on paper.

In the east, Mike Bibby, Jamal Crawford, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Al Horford will easily get you in the playoffs.

^ I respectfully disagree. Because A) Without Johnson, there's no true leader or go-to player on the team. Jamal Crawford cannot lead a team. Joe Smith cannot lead a team. B) The East this year had all 8 playoff teams above .500, and I don't think the Hawks would win 41 games without Joe Johnson.

Milwaukee and Charlotte did not have true go to players, they just had a lot of good talent and made it. The only team who missed the playoffs who could challenge them for a playoff spot would be the Knicks, pending free agency imo. We'll see, but that's a good starting lineup. And the Cavs could completely fall off, opening another spot.

Charlotte was THE best defensive player in the league though. Milwaukee was a great defensive team too. Both teams had far better coaching than ATL too. Atlanta would have a solid starting 5, but no true leader/go-to scorer, no bench, a bad coach, etc. I don't think that team could win 41 games. And the Nets could be a playoff team next year too, don't count them out. I'd also say the Pistons have an outside shot.

Without signing a big time FA I doubt it.

Prior to contrary belief Joe Johnson is not the only player that did anything for the Hawks this season.

Lol quadruple post:

  • I understand NBA players are greedy, but I think Johnson would rather win a title than get an extra year or the max. But that's just my opinion.
  • Larry Drew is unproven as a head coach. Hopefully for your sake, it works.
  • Of course I'm talking about if they sign a FA or two. Without a big time FA, they'll suck again. But all signs point to them getting someone.
  • Again, I understand that. But he was their leader. Their go-to player. He carried the bulk of the load during the regular season. And when he struggled in the postseason, the team struggled mightily. I don't think the Hawks without Johnson could have made the playoffs this past year, plain and simple.
  • Your signature is still absolutely disgraceful. IDK why anyone would think that retard dance is cool.

I don't know.. That is a very talented starting lineup, they should be able to go .500. Obviously someone will need to step up. The Nets would need a free agent pick up to make the playoffs.

Also Brian Windhorst said he expects Joe Johnson to sign with the Hawks pretty quickly now that it has come out they will give him a max. Windhorst is as reliable an insider you will find these days.
