Eugh, I don't like that about American sports...too many players swap allegiances too often. It happens in football but not on the same scale.

Ah well, in any case it'll help me understand the game a bit more, and stop me from dying of boredom.

the new Madden comes out in August though too. That'll be updated for the upcoming season.

According to Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski, coach Jim Schwartz intends to give Jahvid Best a full workload as the team's starting running back despite concerns about Best's size and durability.
Schwartz will model Best's usage on mentor Jeff Fisher's heavy reliance on Chris Johnson in Tennessee, which is phenomenal news for Best's fantasy value. While he may be a boom-or-bust pick, Best's upside will be similar to Steve Slaton's as a rookie (1,659 total yards, 10 all-purpose scores, No. 6 overall fantasy RB), and Best is already a better play-maker than Slaton. Wow, I guess the Lions truly believe this guy can carry the load. Best has a lot of talent, he has a great burst and his speed in the open field is just astonishing. I want to see if his body can truly take the pounding of the league that is the NFL, but we shall see.

Fans have tons of faith in Best. It would be amazing for us to finally have a top tier RB.

i still think we need a big strong work-horse at the number 2 back.

They won't nab LenDale though, don't get your hopes up.

I guarantee you, they will run Best 15-20 times a game and he will get injured this season.

As much as I love Best, you can't put that work load on such a small back. At least Chris Johnson doesn't have an injury history. Best is a beast, that's no lie, but he's not physically able to be an Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore. He may have all the tools, he just lacks the size. And the last thing you want to do with a speed back is ask him to gain weight.

My hopes are not up, I know we won't get him.

But I feel like Best will excel here. As much as I dislike him I think Kevin Smith will be good as our #2 back. He had a great rookie season, I think not having to carry the load will not only help him but help Best. And I don't think Best will get injured, I don't get why people can make predictions like that. His previous injuries have all healed up, he's 100% ready to roll.

Great post, Blake. Took the words out of my mouth.

To be quite honest with you Detroit fans, I think that as a fan of the Lions, I would much rather see earlier Kevin Smith step in as the starter. I'll tell you why. He has shown that he can be a productive back (before the injury) and pick up the tough yards, run between the tackles and at times showed a lot of real good things. He is young, has a lot of life left and he really brings a powerful element that Best doesn't necessarily. Now, slide Best into different packages after the defense has seen and been hit by Kevin Smith for a few plays, it's a completely different game as speed now takes over. I think the Lions can't rush Best into the role of a franchise guy, you have to not forget about Kevin Smith, he's a darn good back.

So, kind of like what Jacksonville did with MJD, slowly work him into the starting role.

Use Best like Urban Meyer used Percy Harvin at Florida.

If you think Smith is a power back you are greatly mistaken lol.
He runs away from contact and is afraid to get hit, and has no acceleration at all. He doesn't have that extra level that most backs have, which is why he will be a serviceable #2 back. Best is a much better back, and he hasn't even taken a snap yet. Schwartz wouldn't declare him as a starter already if he didn't know he was a special kid.

The fact that our offense is so much more powered this year will take so much pressure off of Best. We will still be a pass first team until Best gets stronger and more comfortable, but throwing him out there early is a good idea to me.

I never said he was a power back, I'm saying that a good number two, doing anything will take the workload off of Best, which is exactly what he needs.

That is what I meant, as well. Kevin Smith may have ducked out of bounds in cases and <Censored> like you said, but he still has more ability to grind through the defense than Best. You don't want a speedster running between the tackles constantly and taking a beating...

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that unsigned restricted free agents Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill are "prepared to sit out into the season and even through 2010" if the Chargers don't give them long-term deals.
The Chargers sent both players letters warning them their one-year tenders would be drastically reduced, and the players' agents responded by vowing to be no-shows for "some time." V-Jax and McNeill both have skipped the entire offseason program. It's unclear if the sides have had any contract talks. Jun. 8 - 10:21 am et

For all the San Diego fans who were bashing us about Wayne and Mathis.... looks like you guys need to get your boys signed as well.

Will be exactly that.
I'm not worried.
