San Diego Union-Tribune - LaDainian Tomlinson has acknowledged that his career with the Chargers is over.

“I’m not coming back,” Tomlinson told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday. “I don’t believe I’ll be back in San Diego. I’ve accepted it.”

After more than a month of saying he did not know what would happen, Tomlinson said he has believed for a while he would be let go by the Chargers.

“I’ve been praying and meditating,” he said. “After doing that for a couple weeks, I just felt like it was over.”

Tomlinson has two years remaining on his contract, but he is due a $2 million roster bonus March 5 and would be paid $5 million in total salary in 2010.

There will be lots of teams jumping on him to share the backfield with someone.

he grew up in Texas, including college - so, Dallas could be a spot, but they're pretty much secure with Barber & Jones.

he also loved the U growing up, so maybe Miami???

I'm telling you guys, its gonna be the Patriots. The Patriots are gonna use this off-season as a way to remind everyone that thier dominance in the NFL isn't quite over yet. This situation sort of smells a lot like the situation in which Corey Dillion went to New England in order to get that championship. New England is also like "home away from home" for all perennial Chargers' hall of famers.

Hopefully it is the Patriots! That'd be awesome. They could pair the "old and washed up" backfield duo in LT and Fred Taylor. What a thing of beauty.

IDK why he would, but I think every Lions fan would love this. Give us some sort of excitement. And teach Smith some things lol.

Good luck to LT in the future. Still has it in him and I hope he'll continue that with a good team

This would be perfect for the Pats. If we sign him, it'd be a good offseason just with that. I know he's not amazing anymore, but he is a solid and steady back that could help this team out a lot.

That bum should retire already. He's whiny and selfish. Plus he sucks now.

Yeah, I don't see the "comeback" that everyone said was going to happen, actually happening.

I was never a huge fan of the guy, and never thought he was worth the hype. Last season against Tampa we held him to under 100 yards while on a three game losing streak...

I understand he was great, and maybe my thoughts are because I'm in a market 1,000's of miles away; however, his career is seemingly over.

I know for a fact Tampa will not be looking at him, seeing as how we just picked up Ward, and Williams is having somewhat of a resurgence.

RealGM Staff Report - Running back LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers all-time leading rusher, was released today after nine seasons in San Diego.

Chargers President Dean Spanos met with Tomlinson today and informed his veteran running back that he is being released.

“This is a part of the business that I hate, and it’s particularly hard when you’re dealing with someone I consider a friend,” Spanos said. “Change involving great players is never easy. I respect LT as much or more than any player I’ve ever known. And no one appreciates his contributions to this organization more than I do. That is why this is such a difficult announcement for me to make.

“It has been a privilege to work with him and witness his entire career. I’m proud of him and grateful to him for the way he has carried himself both on and off the field.

“No matter where he chooses to continue his career, in my mind LT will always be a San Diego Charger. His legacy as one of the greatest running backs the game has ever seen will be as a Charger.”
Officially gone, wonder where he could end up?
