Well you be sure as shiznit that Johnny Damon's days in the Bronx are officially over. Cashman said he only had $2M left to find another outfielder and he did. A pretty modest signing for the Bombers but I like it. I was actually fine starting the season with Brett Gardner in left and then hoping that Jamie Hoffman could get comfortable and start living up to his potential. Winn is the perfect hitter to fill the bottom of the line-up, efficiently hits both left & right, and can steal 15-20 bags per season. Winn is much older, did struggle against lefties last season but he is an astounding upgrade over Melky defensively. Joe Girardi said that he was planning on starting Spring Training with Granderson in leftfield...but that most likely changes with this addition.Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees have signed outfielder Randy Winn to a one-year contract at around $2 million.
Your move, Boras. This should effectively close the book on the possibility of Johnny Damon returning to the Bronx, though time will tell if it was the right decision. Winn, 35, batted just .262/.318/.353 with two home runs and 51 RBI with the Giants last season and completely collapsed against left-handed pitching, batting just .154 in 120 at-bats. Hey, at least he's a tremendous defensive upgrade.

Just yesterday, the Yankees had acquired OF prospect Greg Golson for the Texas Rangers, in exchange for IF Mitch Hilligoss.
