San Francisco Chronicle - Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Chronicle believes that the 49ers should offer the Eagles a second-round pick for quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"If you're the 49ers, would you call up the Eagles in March and check to see if you can pry loose Donovan McNabb for a 2010 second-round pick? No way I'd give up either of their No. 1s, but for a No. 2 ... Worth a thought, if Philly's interested," Kawakami wrote.

McNabb's contract expires after the 2010 season, so he'll need an extension, which could lessen his trade value.
Wonder what pm7 would say.

I wonder what's there thought on Smith? Mcnabb for a 2nd when you already have two firsts would be hard to pass up, IMO.

McNabb is worth more than a 2nd round pick...

Players rarely go for what they're worth.

If they can get him for a 2nd, I say they should do it. I don't think this will happen especially after Smith had a good season with a comeback to the starting role.

Going by your criteria, Eli is worth three first rounders and a starter then...
and Tom Brady is worth 3 starters and 6 first rounders..

Brady's best years are behind him. He shouldn't even be in the top 5 QB's in the NFL...
First off, I needed a good laugh after the Bruins game, so thank you

Secondly, this has nothing to with whoever you think is a top 5 QB in the league because, quite frankly, no one takes what you have to say seriously.

I was simply basing my comment on your incredibly knowledgeable process of determining a players value (which I assumed was winning a Super Bowl because, honestly, I can't think of anything else of merit Eli Manning has managed to accomplish)

well he is Peyton's brother - that's at least worth a 3rd round pick

McNabb makes zero sense for the 49ers as they are more than just a veteran quarterback away from being able to make a division title run. I've bought into the 49ers the past 2 season, thought they were in a good spot, but they've disappointed. I can understand if maybe the Niners were on the cusp of wildcard contention and their inexperience at QB cost them a big game or 2...but there's more issues to resolve before we can take this team that seriously. I just hope the 49ers can get back on track and get back into the post-season before guys like Gore and Willis are past their prime. I was a big Montana fan as a kid and I think football is better when the 49ers are good.

McNabb's age and salary figure...Philadelphia won't see a 1st round pick for him. A 2nd is logical...but nobody in the league would give up that first.

On top of that, Brady is hardly past his prime...nor does "Spygate" taint anything the man has done. "Spygate" was a term being slung around by straight up Patriot-haiders.

Basically I'm standing in the same position as AE on this idea, because I basically don't understand the logic. Just because you could get him for a 2nd does not mean you should make the deal -- this is a team that could easily use that pick for youth, rather than bringing in a QB who will be 34 in November. Smith played great and had a nice comeback year, I would be absolutely shocked if they gave up on him all of a sudden.

This is a team that needs to concentrate on getting better because I feel they have the coaching and talent to make the playoffs next year, as a Wild Card spot. It's not worth it in my opinion, to replace a young QB who had a great year (despite not starting every game) for an aging mobile QB -- which BTW spells disaster as a QB gets older -- bringing in a guy who is not afraid to take hits when scrambling, and will scramble more often than other QBs, who has had a brief history of cracked ribs, torn ligaments, a sports hernia and an ACL injury and a broken ankle a few years ago. It's too risky in my opinion because he will cost a 2nd rounder, you'd basically be committing yourself to resigning him after a trade, and you'd have a guy who basically has a history of short seasons because of injuries.

Not worth it.... not at all.

exactly wtf do Eli Manning and Tom Brady have to do with this?

Has NFL Knowledge among some of you guys gotten so bad that you need to drag in the "Spygate" as part of your debate as to whether or not the 49ers would be smart trading a 2nd rounder for McNabb?
