Without these rules you'd get covers that look similar to yours with inaccurate splatters that really kill the flow of the coversIts different for me each time so thats why i can still do it. plus i didnt make alot at the initial jump off so im kinda catching up. And i can imagine its boring for you guys dorado, because those guys make you stick to rules and everything's gotta be a certain way over there, so i guess it would be the same after a while. If you go at each one like a new project then it feels totally different.
If you look at the real Madden and NCAA Football covers, there are splatters going every each way. If your theory was true, all the splatters on the Madden cover would be behind the players considering they are going at each other, which the splatters are not. And on the Crabtree cover you have splatters going left, right, and up.
