After serving his required three years in the Israeli army, Omri Casspi was discharged shortly before this June's NBA draft and was selected by the Kings in the first round with the No. 23 pick.

Many, including some in the Kings organization, believed Casspi was a sniper in the army. But as Casspi explains to the Jewish Journal, that's just not true.

"I don't know where that rumor started," Casspi said. "I wasn't a sniper. It's not true. I was in basic training. But I did hold a gun, and I shot a lot."

Why the hell does this even matter? So he served his time in the military, many NBA players have before. There shouldn't be a target on his back just because he happens to be Israeli.

-smh- Like I said, why does it matter? So the guy happens to be Israeli, doesn't mean he's a damned terrorist. Regardless if he was or wasn't, wth is he going to do, pull out his rifle and start sniping other teams if the Kings are losing? Ridiculous and useless article.

Hold on...

Okay, someone spread rumours that he was a sniper, but why is everyone making the assumption that this article is saying he's a terrorist?

All it's doing is reporting what the player has to say about his time in the army. The people who should be criticized are the idiots who perpetrated the rumors in the first place...

If anything the article is helpful in clearing up the rumor...

You're right. This actually is a good article in defense of Casspi when thinking about it, and yeah it is ridiculous that people would put our rumors like that just because of his ethnicity.

I was posting this in Casspi's defense because it says he wasn't. I wouldn't diss on one of Sactown's Finest.
