NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Jets have reached an agreement with the Cleveland Browns to acquire troubled but talented wide receiver Braylon Edwards(notes).

The Jets sent wide receiver Chansi Stuckey(notes), linebacker Jason Trusnik(notes) and undisclosed draft choices to the Browns on Wednesday to acquire the deep threat they had been lacking. Edwards, in his fifth season, has 10 receptions for 139 yards.

Edwards is also dealing with off-field issues as the NFL is investigating whether he violated the league’s conduct policy following accusations he assaulted a man outside a nightclub.

Edwards allegedly punched promoter Edward Givens, a friend of NBA star LeBron James, early Monday morning following an argument in downtown Cleveland.

I'd say Jets are definite contenders for a Championship now, not that they weren't before but WR of his quality could be a massive boost for the passing game.

This should definitely help but you also have to take into account how lomg it will take him to become familiar with their offense. And I believe the Jets are a playoff team without a doubt, but their biggest concern is still Sanchez, he's played well but he's going to have to cut down on his interceptions.

Depending on the draft picks this could be a win for the Jets. Especially if their able to keep their first 3 picks.

I don't think he'll be a big impact just yet, as he needs to learn the playbook etc.. But it's certainly a massive upgrade compared to Stuckey.

I'm still not convinced by Sanchez though. Yet.

I dont think Braylon will be a big upgrade. He has had ample opportunities with the Browns and he didnt get it done by Anderson or Quinn. I dont think a rookie QB is the key for him to get going.

I heard Edwards wasn't playing his hardest in Cleveland, cause he wanted out. I guess you could believe it if you wanted. I mean how do you go from the season he had 2-3 years ago to unable to catch?

A little iffy to me.

But I wanted the Giants to pick him up bad in the offseason, of course that was before I saw what Smith and Manningham are capable of. I expect it to be similar to what happened last year with Roy Williams and Dallas, just depends on how fast he learns the offense.

Yea, he could end up being another Randy Moss type where he didnt try on a bad team and now all of a sudden he starts playing amazing.

Exactly. I doubt he'll be as good as randy moss but this is so big for us. We really didn't have a deep threat receiver until now. Cotchery is more in the 5-15 yard range. Hopefully this will help Sanchez grow and by the end of the season people will hopefully stop putting 8 in the box. Our running game is struggling because of that right now.

LOLLLL this is definitely a downgrade for the jets. Braylon Edwards <Censored>ing sucks. Can't believe we actually got value for this bum.

I'd say he's not going to hurt them.

This thread is hilarious lol, Jets a super bowl contender because they added a guy who can't catch the football to be there #1 WR.

Jerricho Cotchery is their #1 WR. I dont think the Jets gave up a lot for Braylon anyways. This just looks to me like low risk, high reward type of trade.

Really don't see how Braylon will change at all.. He is afraid to go over the middle, he can't catch, he can't block, he commits more penalties then a WR should, he has a lack of concentration and hes a loud mouth team cancer.

He had the ability to be great, but he didn't improve his game from college.

I love Braylon so I hope he does well in New York. But I don't think this turns them into championship contenders..

Mhmm, yup, keep saying he sucks. Can't wait for him to get on the field.

***Like to point out I'm not one of the people who thinks they're superbowl contenders now.

Am I suppose to say he's good? He has talent but it just shows how bad his work ethic is, and what bad concentration he has.. He doesn't play hard at all and he thinks it's all about him. He dropped something like, over 20 balls last year showing how much of a fluke his 07 season was.

Randy Moss a year before he got traded to the Pats and got 98 catches for 1500 yards:
13 games, 13 games started, 42 receptions, 553 yards, 13.2 Avg, 51 Long, 3 TD

Braylon Edwards 2008:
16 games, 16 games started, 55 receptions, 873 yards, 15.9 Avg, 70 Long, 3 TD

I'm not trying to say he's gonna have a Randy Moss 07 Season, all I'm saying is that his 08 numbers don't mean <Censored>.
