how do you get between the hair though?

for the hair, I actually make it myself using 3 different techniques. I try some smudging with low pixel brush. I also try cloning using 2 different brushes at the bottom of the basics. There's a grass blade brush that I really like, and there's a sponge-type one I use for dreads.
