With Jerod Mayo sidelined for 6-8 weeks, the Patriots were thought to be dialing up Junior Seau or Tedy Bruschi...however The Boston Herald says that may not be the case:

The Herald's Ian Rapoport is citing an unknown source in reporting that the Patriots are considering a Derrick Brooks signing. According to Rapoport's souce: "They're kicking it around."

The Patriots may need to finish kicking this around sooner than later...as news of this may propel Chicago to make the call to Brooks first. Brooks would be a great fit for the team, not only for his play but for his leadership. With the departures of Rodney Harrison, Tedy Bruschi and Richard Seymour, Mayo was expected to play the leadership role in the defense.

Rumors are that the Patriots would shift Adalius Thomas to the inside and play Brooks on the outside.

that's 2 teams now that Brooks has been linked to.

why not go for Zach Thomas to man the middle?

Well I'm sure if the Pats give him a call he'd stay, lol.

I read reports that Zach Thomas was going to retire, even before he was let go by the Chiefs. I think Zach may not have much left in the tank and he knows it.

I mean if you can't make the Chiefs roster... ;)

The Patriots would be better served talking Junior out of retirement. He did publicly say that he would consider coming back but didn't feel as though he would be able to play the entire season. Junior for about 6-8 weeks might just work for both parties.

Pats, or Bears, dont care who signs him just as long as he plays for someone. Although, if he signed with the Bears, I`d have a good chance of beiing able to see him play when they play Detroit. Yes, it wont be the same because he had been with Tampa for soo long, but I think he still has some left in the tank. Give him a season or two more. Depends on how he would do this season, if he gets signed.

Lets just sign Zach Thomas and Derrick Brooks, and we then we'll be set at the LB spots.

I agree with AE on signing Seau for a short term deal, that sounds great.

I heard Derrick Brooks is going to be an NFL analyst or something. Wouldn't mind seeing him playing again although I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank. I can't get over all of the stars Tampa Bay has lost on defense over the last several years. It's mind blowing, definitely going to take some time to get that defense back to where it use to be.

Sad but true.

Derrick Brooks has signed on to be the NFL Analyst for ESPN 2's First Take. Guess we will have to settle with him arguing with that idiot Skip Bayless over leading a defense for the 15th year.

Yeah, it sucks...

Brooks was an awesome dude and did a lot for the community. Hate to see him go.
