So why hasn't defensive lineman Richard Seymour reported for duty in Oakland?

Some think that he wants a new deal from a Raiders. A league source tells us that the root of the problem is that Seymour thought he was getting a new deal from the Patriots.

Per the source, Seymour believes that progress was being made toward an agreement that would have extended his stay with the Patriots beyond 2009. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the Patriots shipped him to Oakland.

The source explains that there's a chance that agent Eugene Parker led Seymour to believe that the talks toward a new deal had progressed farther than they actually had. Either way, the fact that Seymour went from thinking he was going to sign a retirement deal with the Patriots to learning that he'd been sent to the Raiders has contributed in large part to the confusion and frustration that has kept him from reporting to work at his new place of employment.

And it remains to be seen whether he ever will.

Like ESPN stated, Seymour has all the leverage right now. The Raiders already gave up that 1st rounder and Richard has accomplished a lot and made a good amount of money. He might be looking for a new deal from the Raiders at this moment and I would be too.

They haven't ALREADY gave it up. He hasn't taken a physical yet. Until then, the Raiders still have the pick.

No he doesn't. It CANNOT be approved until he passes his physical.

Pro Bowl defensive lineman Richard Seymour has yet to report for work since the Patriots traded him to the Raiders on Sunday.

Cable previously said Seymour was working out "issues" with the Patriots, but they deny any issues remain. On Tuesday, Cable said "nothing has changed at this point."

The NFL approved the trade (New England gets a 2011 first-round pick) and counts Seymour against the Raiders' 53-man roster. The only known issue is he has not reported to pass a physical with Oakland.

Seymour's contract expires after this season. Cable declined to say if the Raiders are negotiating a long-term contract with Seymour before he arrives - as they did with DeAngelo Hall last year.

But if he doesn't report or pass the physical the Raiders can file for a rescind of the trade, which would be approved and the Pats would give Seymour the 5 day letter and the Raiders would still have their pick. They were talkign about it on NFL Network this morning.

I'm pretty sure he will. He'll be suited up week 2 I'm guessing, with a new contract.
