The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors are discussing a sign-and-trade deal for Shawn Marion, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Dallas is dangling the partially guaranteed contract of Mavs forward Jerry Stackhouse to acquire Marion. Stackhouse, 34, has only $2 million of his $7 million salary guaranteed for this season, and whomever trades for Stackhouse can buy out the deal by Aug. 10. The Raptors aren’t likely interested in taking back salary in a deal for Marion, a former All-Star forward, so Stackhouse is an intriguing possibility.

It’s possible Dallas would have to sweeten the deal with cash and/or draft picks to satisfy the Raptors.

The Raptors were close to re-signing Marion until Hedo Turkoglu had a change of heart and agreed to a five-year, $53 million contract with the Raptors. Toronto needs to renounce Marion, Anthony Parker and Carlos Delfino to create the cap space to sign Turkoglu.

A third team could be needed for Toronto to keep Stackhouse’s $2 million off the Raptors payroll this year, and allow them to sign Turkoglu for the full $53 million of his total deal.

After a midseason trade from Miami, Marion averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds with the Raptors.
I would actually like this trade for Dallas a lot. Marion is a system type player and we can run the floor with JET, Kidd, and Marion. I was actually talking about this during the trading period last season. But idk how Toronto wants to get rid of Marion, I think a 1st rounder and cash would satisfy their needs.

Actually I heard we were interested in adding a veteran in Stackhouse.

The Mavericks, Raptors and Grizzlies have agreed to a deal in principle that will send Shawn Marion to Dallas, according to NBA sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the trade will also send Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies, with one source close to the process saying that a trade call with the league office to formalize the deal has been planned for Thursday.

The known parameters of the deal call for Marion to receive a five-year contract in the region of $40 million from the Mavericks and land Stackhouse in Memphis, where he will be bought out by the Grizzlies. Dallas will send Memphis $2 million by Aug. 10th to pay for the buyout.

Toronto will receive unspecified draft considerations and/or cash, but the involvement of a fourth team virtually assures that other players from the Mavericks and Grizzlies will be involved.
I was going to make another thread, but no need in making two lol

The deal is kind of weird, I dont see whats going on really lol

I really think Toronto is going to regret making the decision to close on Hedo.

I still think Cuban has something else planned.

JH5 would probably be okay at the 2 but it just seems kind of weird to imagine....plus we still have the 12.1 million expiring in Dampier which we can use anytime between now and the trade deadline.

Several other players including the Raptors' Kris Humphries, and the Mavericks' Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Antoine Wright are part of the trade according to sources. The Grizzlies will be getting Stackhouse and cash, sources said. George and Wright will end up in Toronto, according to the same sources. Humphries is on his way to Dallas.
YES, George is out <3. And Humphries is <3

word is that this is now a 4 way deal, with orlando involved with the hedo thing where they send hedo to toronto. it's confusing, I don't even understand, but word is Mavs and Magic might do something so that they basically guarantee that the Mavs get Gortat. IDK, this is really confusing.

from cbssportsline
UPDATE: In one of the truly random delights of NBA trades, Orlando receives a sizeable trade exception as the fourth team involved in the trade, according to two of the sources with direct knowledge of the deal. Thus, the Magic send Turkoglu to the Raptors in a sign-and-trade as opposed to Turkoglu signing straight up with Toronto. Those two sources said Turkoglu does not get a sixth year in his deal, which Orlando could have given him as part of the sign-and-trade.

CBSSports.com reported Monday night that Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Marion's agent, Dan Fegan, were pushing for a trade to Dallas. Toronto's inability to take back salary due to its verbal commitment with Turkoglu for five years and $53 million didn't bode well -- unless at least one other team was recruited to facilitate the deal. That happened Wednesday, one of the sources confirmed, when Memphis and then Orlando agreed to get involved. If the Raptors hadn't found a trading partner -- they had discussions with Cleveland about Anthony Parker, who agreed to a contract parameters Wednesday with the Cavs, but not Marion -- then GM Bryan Colangelo simply would've renounced Marion's rights in order to clear space for Turkoglu.

One NBA front office source expressed doubt Wednesday whether any team would be willing to give up a prized draft pick and cash in this environment to facilitate such a deal. Perhaps that person underestimated Cuban, who has once again moved aggressively in his pursuit of a veteran player in hopes of getting the aging Mavericks closer to a championship.

Marion, 31, joins the over-30 club with Dirk Nowitzki (31), Jason Terry (31), and Jason Kidd (36), who was retained with a three-year. $25 million deal this week. Cuban also signed restricted free agent Marcin Gortat to an offer sheet that Orlando is not expected to match.
btw, quick photoshop job <3

Source confirms Orl is indeed in the deal. Magic get cash and 10m trade exception. Hedo goes to Tor in S&T.25 minutes ago from web
So need to change title to 4 team deal, I'm not 100% sure wtf a trade exception is, but I know a 10 million dollar one sounds pretty serious

I think it means they can take on 10m extra in a deal without having to match? Idk for sure...
