As the NBA draft approached, the grim truth about Yao Ming’s(notes) broken left foot hung like an anvil over the Houston Rockets. The fear isn’t that he’s just lost for next season, but longer.

The Rockets and Yao’s reps are frightened over his future, and the concern is the most base of all: Does Yao Ming ever play again?

That sucks for Yao. T-Mac is going to be out going into next season too, right? Or am I thinking of someone else?

The Rockets actually played better against LA when Yao wasn't in games.

Yeah, Bol played 9 years and Muresan played 11. Yao would be entering his 7th year this year.

Huge blow to the Rockets, and about them playing better without Yao, that was for one game. The next game the Lakers smacked them

Huge loss, but Maple's right not many big men play longer then 8-10 years. I doubt he misses all of next year though, I'm sure he'll try to come back.

It wasn't just about the game they won, it was about in some of the other games, even when Yao was healthy. When they had the bench him because of foul trouble, its when the Rockets went on their biggest runs.

even if he comes back, he'll probably have 2-3 more years max.

The Rockets need to move in a direction away from Yao & T-Mac anyways. Both have missed so much time on the floor with injury that it no longer makes sense to keep a team built around them.
