Ricky Rubio preferred to play in a big NBA market...and Minnesota certainly isn't that. Less than a day after the Spanish point guard was drafted by the T-Wolves, there's already talk of him getting cold feet.

According to a report from Spanish sports site Marca.com, Rubio's father claims his son may return to Europe for a few more years, rather than play in the NBA now. According to Esteve Rubio: "We are going to speak with the [people, staff] of Minnesota and see what's happening, because, in some hours, we may be in Minnesota or in another place."

We could see a Yi Janlian-like hold out...maybe Rubio does in fact go back. Early this morning, Yahoo Sports was reporting that the Knicks were trying to work out a trade for Rubio's services. -AE

I posted this last night, but it does need it's own thread. I think if he stays in Europe for one more season it will help him and the TWolves, they will be able to have Flynn come in and maybe boost his stock so they can move him for a SG to pair with Rubio.

Your looking at this story the wrong way Pugz. If Rubio returns to Europe it will be because he doesn't want to play for a small market team & it will be for as long as it takes to get into a big NBA market. By no means is this Rubio back to Europe talk all about him developing his game for another year, in order to help the T-Wolves.

AE I know what it means, but I don't think Rubio will go as far as Yi tried.

I dunno...your last post made it sound like you figure Rubio would play 1 more year in Europe to benefit the T-Wolves.

If he goes back to Europe, its to spurn Minnesota.

Then why was he pushing for Sacramento?

Rubio also knows he's not big enough to succed as much as he wants to in the NBA, and going back overseas and bluking up could help. I really think he'll play here this season. But I don't think he'll try to shaft Minni as much as other people are thinking.

apparently he IS staying in Europe, this on realgm 10 minutes ago

A report on Marca on Thursday night quoted Ricky Rubio's father as saying he will likely remain in Spain instead of joining the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kevin Love sent out a Twitter post on Friday indicating that Rubio indeed would remain in Spain.

"Rubio to stay in Spain according to his father," writes Love.

Is his dad his agent? I'll wait until Minni says this.

What an idiot. I'm glad we didn't draft this big-shot.

This is only due to his buyout, he can't pay all of it.

"Nobody here tonight, myself especially, will be banging his fist on the table, saying, 'He must be here!' It's a very complicated matter," Kahn said Thursday night. "We need to understand that we're not in control of the situation vis a vis the buyout. ... I think it's too early to worry about that. But I said this to the agent tonight: If any team in this league can afford to wait a year, dare I say two, it's us. Y'know? It's us."

Kevin Love knows about as much as we do right now. Probably even ready the same story off RealGM.

I think Rubio would of been more than happy in Sac-Town. Not big market but close enough & its West Coast. I'm sure he'd have no problem going back to Spain, as opposed to playing in Minnesota.

Who the hell is Ricky Rubio anyways? Most other draft years & he's a mid-round pick at best.

He would have been lotto last and next year, and he'd only get better. But he was only picked on potential, and right now if he does stay in Europe for reasons other then his buyout then I really think NBA GM's need to weed out these cocky Euro's.
