Uh oh, looks like another team is putting speedy receivers & backs in the gun...

Spectators at Brad Childress' mandatory 3-day mini camp were treated to a very unusual sight, the Vikings running plays out of a 'Wildcat-like' offensive formation. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell inserted Percy Harvin into the quarterback position & then ran from there. Chester Taylor and Darius Reynaud were also evaluated in the Wildcat role however it is the addition of Harvin that has Bevell & Childress thinking outside the box.

Known for being very conservative with his schemes & play-calling, Childress has embraced the need for change & is looking towards Harvin to be a serious 'x-factor' in his offense for 2009. Bevell says that they are about 20-30 plays inside the Vikings playbook that feature a Wildcat-type of formation & 15-20 of those plays have been added within the past month alone.

“We’re up there trying to diagram everything we can,” Bevell told the AP yesterday, “We’re looking at things we can do. We’re looking at things other teams have done and trying to get the ball to our playmakers.”

Aside from the a single-wing formation opening up the field for Percy Harvin to make plays, the Vikings do expect the Wildcat to aid in the play making ability of Adrian Peterson. -AE

Tavaris Jackson is pretty much just a wildcat QB himself, don't see the point.

Don't think this will work out for the vikes, they don't seem like the right team for it

chester taylor can run with it.the only reason for them using it is because they have percey harvin and want to see what he can do.they will probably run in the preseason or first 2 games to test it out

You have to think that if Percy Harvin can do in the NFL what he did at Florida, this can work. Defenses are already zoning in one on Adrian Peterson the whole time he is on the field. So if we've got Harvin making plays...putting him the gun, Peterson at tailback and Tarvaris split out could really get an opposing defense having to play a guessing game.

Don't expect the Vikings to run the Wildcat nearly as much as the Dolphins did last season but expect them to try it & use it about as much as it works.

I like the idea, especially since Tavaris isnt a pocket passer, like AE said it will force teams to take their focus off AP and gives them more options on offense. Berrian should be a big part b/c pf his speed

But I guess this means no Favre?

Although I don't think they will use it very much, its nice that they are trying to think outside the box. Childress's and Bevell's playcalling has been herendous the past few seasons.
