The Mavericks are making it very clear that they want to re-sign point guard Jason Kidd. There have been rumors to the contrary, but owner Mark Cuban, general manager Donnie Nelson and coach Rick Carlisle all want Kidd back in Dallas.

"If you want to be successful in the postseason, you have to have a great quarterback," Nelson said Friday. "Jason provides that.

"Jason is really the straw that stirs the drink as far as getting guys in the right position, and that's just the on-the-court stuff. The off-the-court stuff is even more important. Guys in the locker room know they're going to get great leadership [from Kidd] every night."
Im sure they plan on signing him to a deal where he gets paid much less then what he's making right now in order to bring in more talent, but what do you all think of it?

If he wants to win a title before he retires, he should leave.

I honestly think they want Kidd to re-sign so bad b/c they gave up Devin Harris & have no NBA title to show for it.

I agree, the Mavs are slowly falling out of playoff contender status, and this year has been the worst for JKidd, he's obviously two steps slow. Still and effective player but not what he once was just 2-3 years ago.

Unless theyre able to make moves to bring in a defensive/banger presence to compliment Dirk and start to emphasize defense, things wont get any better.

The Mavericks need to get younger, if they can do that by going after Artest or someone young like that and they'll be ok.

Artest would be a good pickup, but they have Josh unless they do a S&T. They should try to sign Kidd for CHEAP then go after Ron and a defensive C.
Either way they need help, the west is waaay too strong

They should just leave him be, that trade made Dallas look like idiots.

Its easy to criticize the trade now, seeing how Devin turned out and how the Mavs havent gotten a ring. But at the time it was a good move, Harris wasnt going to lead them to a championship and they thought Kidd gave them a better chance.

Devin was never going to be putting up the numbers he was unless he went to a team and was the #1 option, and that wasn't going to happen on the Mavs. If anything, the Mavs just didn't get enough in return for Devin.

I'm okay with Kidd for a 1 year cheap deal, people can criticize the trade but it also is going to help us in the 2010 FA offseason.

Im not too worried if we dont sign Kidd, we'll just sign another good FA out there and make the playoffs like we always do. They exceeded my expectations because I had them coming in as the #8 seed and ended up being the #5. We need to get tougher and that begins with signing players like Chandler and Artest.

Devin isn't the #1 guy on this team yet and yes, we ripped you guys off in the long run.

I was never a fan of the trade. Kidd was a old slow PG, who, IMO, at the time wouldn't help Dallas win a ring.

He was still a top 5 PG at the time of the trade, and has always been slow. He's never been athletic, with championship experience.

Devin was never going to be able to shine in Dallas' offense. The Nets offense if perfect for his game, wide open and puts the ball in his hands way more than it would of in Dallas.

I think Dallas is making a nice notion to re-sign Kidd & if the price is right, by all means. I still think Cuban makes terrible personnel decisions in order to win now & none have worked. If I am in charge of the Mavs tomorrow, I be more patient, stop acquiring the Jason Kidd's & Jerry Stackhouse's and not have my offense revolve so much around Dirk.

The Mavericks have a good chance of signing Jason Kidd, or at least receive some compensation in return in the form of a sign-and-trade, according to one insider.

The Lakers and Cavaliers have long been rumored to be interested in signing Kidd, but the Blazers and Knicks will also be contenders, according to ESPN.
