With the NFC West up for the taking, grumblings from Niners camp suggest that the team is looking into the potential of a Julius Peppers trade.

A report by The Sacramento Bee supports the idea, citing San Francisco's quiet free agency has left them with plenty of cap space for 2009. Panthers GM Marty Hurney and Niners GM Scot McCloughan have a good repoor and already made 1 deal this off-season. If you remember on draft day, McCloughan sent his 2nd round & 4th round picks to Carolina for Hurney's 2010 1st rounder.

Though such talk is early speculation, Peppers still being at odds with Carolina, combined with SF's cap space & duel 1st round picks for next year's draft...certainly would make plenty of sense. -AE

The saga continues....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Disgruntled defensive end Julius Peppers was the only player missing from the start of the Carolina Panthers' three-day minicamp on Friday.

The stalemate extended for the four-time Pro Bowl selection, who wants to play elsewhere.

It was hard to find anybody visibly upset or concerned that the franchise's all-time sacks leader was sitting at home instead of signing a contract that would pay him more than $1 million a game.

"It's kind of what I expected. He hasn't signed his tender yet," coach John Fox said. "I know he's working out. He'll be in great shape."

This is a big thing that could easily go down. I think the Niners are rolling in the right direction, as long as they can lock in a good QB soon.

I still have faith in Alex Smith. Keep in mind how young this kid was when he was drafted (came out after his Soph season) & keep in mind the fact that he has played with a new Offensive Coordinator in every single season of his NFL career.

Perhaps the Niners keep some consistency in their Offensive Coaches & Offensive System will equal consistency from Alex.

This would be so great for the 49ers. Would give them a boost they need

Like Smith also but he get his sh** together this off season and learn to lead this team

Hes going to have to step it up now. No way Singletary takes more BS. If it aint working out your going to see more changes to that offense.

I like him too I just think its taking a while and its gotta happen soon otherwise people are going to forget about him and if they get the chance to acquire or draft a QB in the future, this guy may get tossed out and forgotten.
