The Miami Dolphins have promised University of Connecticut cornerback Darius Butler that he’ll be their first-round draft pick at No. 25 overall if he’s still available, according to a highly-placed source close to the situation.

Namely, Butler’s father said it on the record.

Mitchell Butler III told Zach Buchanan of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel that his son received the guarantee from Dolphins executives.

Butler had a private workout for Miami team officials on April 10.

Butler is one of the fastest players available in the draft and has been rising on several teams’ draft boards.

In a few mock drafts, he has been connected to the New England Patriots at No. 23 overall.

The Browns are playing it smart. If there's nothing that really knocks their socks off early on...trade down & acquire more picks. Even trading down 2 more sports will get them another 3rd or 4th rounder.
