The Chicago Bears pulled the big upset Thursday afternoon by acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, a source told ESPN.com.

The Broncos confirmed the move.

To acquire Cutler, the Bears had to give up quarterback Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a source said.

To complete the trade, the Broncos had to give back an undisclosed draft choice in a later round.

The Bears beat out the Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans and other teams to get land the 25-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback.

The Broncos had been asking for at least two first-round choices.

Cutler asked to be traded when he found out first-year coach Josh McDaniels tried to acquire Matt Cassel in a trade with the Patriots.

Cutler had not returned phone calls from the Broncos, according to the team, and had been staying away from the offseason program.

Broncos won this deal.
They got so many picks in this. And Cutler is 17-20 as a starter, and never played a playoff game. Even though he would of looked sexy for any team.

I like this deal for both sides. Denver never wanted the first overall pick in exchange for Cutler. What Denver wanted is exactly what Denver got...a pair of first round picks and a QB (with a favorable salary) that is capable of producing.

The Bears get a homerun in Cutler but my question now is who the hell is Cutler throwing to? Marty Booker is no Brandon Marshall & Devin Hester is no Eddie Royal. "Cutler to Olsen for the first down"...get used to hearing it b/c its going to be said an awful lot from now on.

Cutler is 17-20 as a starter...but Cutler amassed over 4500 yds through the air last season, over 3500 is 2007. Denver's problems within the last 2 seasons have been on the defensive side of the ball...something you can't hold against Jay.

Funny you never tried to put down Cutler with that 17-20 record playing with a crappy defense on his team when you wanted him on the Lions...

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how Cutler plays without WRs in Chicago. I like this more for the Broncos, two firsts, a 3rd and a temporary QB who probably will fit well in Denver.

thing is that the new Denver coach made Cassell into what he was - maybe he could work his magic on Orton and/or get a QB this year and train him, too.

I honestly think this is a win for Denver more than Chicago - though, they did get Pace to shore up that OL

Okay, I actually somewhat dislike this deal.
You have to remember that Orton is an NFL QB, if he had weapons, I think he'd be just as good as oh, say Matt Cassel. I mean honestly who knew that Cassel would go off like that? I didn't, but he had his WEAPONS. Give any QB Moss, Welker, Faulk out of the backfield, and they'll be fine. I think the Bears really needed those picks to get WRs, or address a major injury that could happen, you never know.
I am REALLY happy about the thought of Cutler in Chicago, but with no wideouts to catch Cutler's bullet quick passes, I don't know if the system can take him.
