Kidd To Become Bone-Marrow Donor

Jason Kidd wants to raise awareness about leukemia. More specifically, the Mavs’ Hall-of-Fame guard wants to help a 6-year old girl from New York named Jasmina.

Thurday afternoon, following practice, Kidd is going to do both.

Jasmina has a rare form of Leukemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. In order to bring awareness to the situation facing Jasmina and others like her, and to also demonstrate how simple and painless the process is, Kidd will follow up the Mavs’ workout at the American Airlines Center by registering to become a bone-marrow donor.

"Hey, things like this remind us just how precious our lives really are,'' Kidd told Mavs staffer Danny Bollinger. "One minute we are going along fine and then the next minute you are fighting for your life. So I am going to do everything I can to help her find a match. By raising awareness for Jasmina, it will also help other people find matches by raising awareness about the registry.”

Every year more than 140,000 people are diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Sadly, only three out of 10 patients receive a bone-marrow transplant. A hat-tip to Jason Kidd for his willingness to play a role in solving that problem.
