A report that first surfaced onProFootballTalk.com has been confirmed by a league source: the Detroit Lions are trying to work a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The Lions would send defensive tackle Cory Redding to Seattle in exchange for Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson.

Asked if a deal had been completed, Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said, "We have nothing to confirm at this time.''
There is more to the article, but that's the core of it.

Done deal. Lions trade Cory Redding and 2009 5th rounder for Julian Peterson. Win-Win for both teams. Lions need help at LB and Peterson is a 3 time pro-bowler. Redding was making too much money and not producing enough. Seahawks were going to cut Peterson anyway.

I'm pretty thrilled about this. Peterson is going to help our defense out soooo much. As well as teaching our young guys a bunch of things.

Mayhew actually has the nuts to do something. Unlike Millen.

This basically all but guarantees Aaron Curry to the Chiefs at #3

CONFIRMED

Lions defensive tackle Cory Redding has been traded to Seattle for linebacker Julian Peterson.

The Lions also are sending the Seahawks a fifth-round draft choice to complete the deal.

Redding signed a seven-year, $47.8 million contract to stay in Detroit in 2007, when the team decided to move him from defensive end. Former Lions coach Rod Marinelli believed Redding would be able to help the "three-technique" defensive tackle format.

Though Redding didn't produce the desired sacks, he is considered a talented, developing player who is still in his prime.

In acquiring Peterson, the Lions are getting a Pro Bowl-caliber linebacker who can get to the quarterback.

This week, the Seahawks asked Peterson to take a pay cut. He rejected that request and trade talks started around the league. The Lions moved quickly.

Peterson has 46 career sacks and has been to five Pro Bowls. He signed a seven-year, $54 million contract to join the Seahawks in 2006.

With Peterson, Lofa Tatupu and franchise player Leroy Hill on the roster, the Seahawks had $20.7 million of their cap tied up at linebacker.

Julian Peterson Reportedly Dealt to Lions

Something very odd is going on in Detroit this offseason: the Lions are actually showing signs of knowing what they're doing. The latest move reportedly has the Lions sending defensive tackle Cory Redding and a 2009 fifth-round to Seattle for Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson.

Peterson was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in Seattle. The Michigan State alum will slide into Detroit's starting strongside linebacker spot and, paired with Ernie Sims on the weakside as the Lions continue to rapidly rebuild their miserable defense. There are implications here beyond immediate on-field payoffs, though.

It's true though lol.

But nice very nice trade for us, Peterson can't that mad since he went to MSU lol.
Indeed. I was thinking about that earlier. Any other guy would probably be mad he got traded to us haha. But he went to college here.

Hopefully this will show other players that it is okay to come here. Like Cutler.

Sweet!! I love all these talks involving the Lions and trades. You can tell Millen isn`t in charge anymore!! Millen who!! :D

I knew Redding wasn`t going to be there for much longer. He just wasn`t putting up the numbers he should be, and Peterson will definately help us out on D, which we definately need all the help we can get!!

Indeed, that is why I think we can get Cutler. The fact Millen isn't here anymore.

Oh, most definately. Now, if Millen was still here, I know that we would not have a chance AT ALL, the thought wouldn`t even cross our minds about getting Cutler, or Peterson, or anyone really.

Yeah. If there was an award for most WR`s on a team at one time, Lions would get it. They have had soo many, they even lose track. Heck, there are guys that show up that I didn`t even know were on our team. Like, what`s his name, the guy from Iowa, last name starts with an S. Standford or something like that, I think.
