Colts to release Harrison

NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that the Colts will release Marvin Harrison "in the coming days."
Harrison's been a Colt for 13 seasons, but his inability to separate from DBs consistently makes him unworthy of his $13.4 million cap number. The move will save $7 million under the cap, allowing Indianapolis to franchise tag free agent Kelvin Hayden. The deadline to franchise players is Thursday.

Dang. That`s the end of the Peyton to Marvin combo. It was great while it lasted, but i`m not completly suprised by this. Had a great career though. Whether it continues or not, who knows.

This was clearly a move that the Colts were expected to make now. For that kind of money and at his age...this is a business decision that made too much sense. You have to factor in how much Reggie Wayne has really become the #1 target, the emergence of Anthony Gonzalez as a duel threat, and let us not forget that Peyton's favorite receiver is still Dallas Clark.

A sad move for fans but this is a business and the way the economy is right now, we are starting to see salary caps beginning to shrink.

This was clearly a move that the Colts were expected to make now. For that kind of money and at his age...this is a business decision that made too much sense. And with his large contract, theres no way you can trade him easily. Your actually better off releasing him...
I actually have a gut feeling Harrison will retire, that this cut may be a signal to him that its time to hang 'em up.

I actually think Marvin being the competitor he is wont call it quits just yet. I see him floating around the league and doing the same thing Andre Reed did after his long career with the Bills was over.
