The Baltimore Ravens made their first move of the 2009 offseason by releasing 10-year veteran CB Chris McAlister. A 3-time Pro Bowler, McAlister was set to make $8 million this season...a price that Baltimore no longer sees worth paying. McAlister suffered a nagging knee injury during the 2008 season, finding himself on the bench and then the IR after 5 games.

After spending all 11 seasons with the same team, RB Fred Taylor will now have to seek out new home. The oft-injured, 33-year old back was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars today...the third move of many to come as Jack Del Rio looks to revamp his squad. Taylor was scheduled to make $6 million in 2009, the final year under his current contract. Del Rio met with Taylor to personally deliver the news. The Jaguars released former high priced free agents Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence last week. -AE

I can't believe how time flies by. I remember when McAlister was a young CB everyone loved. Now he's 32?

He'll be back, and in larger numbers...

Nah but seriously, he'll find a team quickly and I think Baltimore did this to increase their chances of affording more of their perennial LBs.

McAlister & Taylor definately aren`t what they used to be, but I think they both still have a little left in them.

They're trying to clear some cap room, it's obvious... they might need a new LB seeing as Ray Lewis wants to go and play for the New York Jets. I personally think Fred Taylor's release was a bad move, as a long time MJD fan, I don't think he's better then Fred Taylor and can do what Fred Taylor has done.

McAlister looked like a fraction of his former self last season and was benched prior to his injury anyways. I think for the cost of McAlister to this point...smart move by Baltimore.

Sad to see Fred Taylor leave Jacksonville...I know he even offered to take a pay cut to stay...but Jacksonville's chemistry was all jacked up last season and Del Rio is right in making huge changes to the make-up of this team. MJD cannot be the full feature back but at the same time, Fred Taylor isnt going to play forever. I think the time for the Jaguars to turn the page is right now. Taylor is getting old and given the amount of injuries he has had throughout his career, the guy's body has gotta feel about 5 years older than he actually is right now.

Well then they need to try and draft Knowshon Moreno or Percy Harvin, if either one is still available when it's their turn... Moreno is a strong back who can put up numbers, Harvin is a quick guy who can give MJD a lot of time to rest, it would be cool to alternate starters with Harvin out there

Ray Lewis is going anywhere. He`ll retire in Baltimore, I guarantee it.

REPORT: FRED TAYLOR LIKELY TO SIGN WITH THE PATS
Posted by Mike Florio on February 26, 2009, 11:52 p.m.

After visiting this week with the Bills and the Patriots, it looks like running back Fred Taylor is close to picking his next time.

The 11-year veteran is expected to sign with New England, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal.

Both the Bills and the Pats have made offers to Taylor.

The addition of Taylor would give the Pats significant depth at the position, assuming that Laurence Maroney is able to recover from shoulder problems that plagued him last season.
