Obama called Cards coach after game

TEMPE, Ariz. -- President Barack Obama was rooting for Pittsburgh but that didn't stop him from making a congratulatory call to Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Obama made the call a day after the Cardinals were beaten by the Steelers in Sunday's Super Bowl.

The Steelers defeat the Cardinals 27-23 in one of the most memorable Super Bowls ever.

Whisenhunt said the call came shortly after he returned to his home Monday afternoon.

He said Obama was "congratulating our team on the success we had had and was very impressed with the way our men had played. And that was quite special."

"I was actually just walking in my front door," Whisenhunt said Tuesday. "He called my cell phone. I don't know how they got my number ... I was humbled and I was stunned."

Obama proved prophetic when he was interviewed by Matt Lauer on NBC's pregame show Sunday.

"I think the Steelers are going to eke it out in the end," the president said before Arizona rallied to take a 23-20 fourth-quarter lead, only to fall 27-23 on Santonio Holmes' tiptoe catch for a touchdown with 35 seconds to play.

Obama had conceded earlier in the week that he was pulling for Pittsburgh. Steelers owner Dan Rooney, a longtime Republican, endorsed Obama's presidential bid and campaigned for him.

I love Barack... such a classy guy.

I mean, you never hear about President's calling people, coaches, etc. involved with sports, but he's made a lot of calls to people you wouldn't expect him to call already, really a good guy, likes to connect with people.

I just knew there was something I liked about President Obama, well many things, but this is surely one of them. He is such a great guy. It`s quite ironic how he predicted that Steelers would eek it out in the end, and that`s exactly what happened. I`m suprised in a sense, but not really that he would call Wisenhunt after the game. He is just one of those class-act guys that does what he can to connect with people.

This is why this man is great! He's going to to d good not only for the economy, but for the sports world. And it makes me so happy that he will be in the mix to get rid of the bad in sports. No more Dirty Cheating Bastards Spurs!!!
