It's like one of my first cuts ever, I know it's not very good.

Thanks. I've made ONE before this, but it was like a year ago and HORRIBLE. Should I click the points closer together to make it more smooth?

zooming in depends on the size of the pic -- elibrary, I normally zoom in 200%.. everything else at 400-500%

a trick to round off edges is to use the elliptical tool.. make it to the size desired on arms, ears, etc and then copy & paste from original on top of the cut.

also, on motion blurred parts like fingers, select area around it with wand, select inverse, then clone to the edges

not bad for one of your firsts, if you follow the right path you might have a good future in cutting

some mentors I had that were great at cutting said they use the pen tool because of its accuracy

Yeah, thats what I'm using. Could someone do me a favor and take a screen shot of you point zoomed in so I can see how close you have them?

It's going to be different for different pics, it's really just a judgement call. Zoom in enough that you can clearly tell the difference between render and background.

I use the polygonal tool for gettin rid of small strips of BG, I find that the pen tool is good for smooth cuts and is much easier to get used to while the polygonal tool is much harder to get good at however it is a very helpful and an easier tool to use when your new to cutting.

if you can get used to pen, use it.. it's definitely better for curves and rounding.. I've been using polygonal for almost 2 years now, so I've come to know little things to do in specific spots - which works for me

I zoom in 800% I don't know what y'all are talking about. 200-500%? How do you get quality cuts? Anyways for a first cut that's pretty good. The hand area is a little choppy, ditto for the arm and head. Keep at it.

depends on the size of the original.. and 800% get too blurred IMO.

the 200-500 has worked fine for me and my 1000+ cuts, I think LOL
