CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Julius Peppers wants out of Carolina.

The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end has decided he won’t sign a long term deal with the Panthers and wants to play in a 3-4 defense. His agent, Carl Carey, said Saturday that Peppers hopes to play for another team to “reach his full potential.”

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 draft, Peppers had a career-high 14 1/2 sacks this season and becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Panthers could place the franchise tag on Peppers that would force him to play for Carolina next season, but it would cost the team about $16.7 million in a one-year deal.

General manager Marty Hurney could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.

Me neither, but the money he is going to demand is going to be amazing.

I think we should go after Jordan Gross and someone like Terrell Suggs

I don't think any team in the NFL wouldn't mind having him lol.

You've got to be kidding me. He was great this year, why does he want to leave. If it wasn't for Delhomme we would be in the super bowl this year. He's making a big mistake leaving Carolina.

Well, that would definately help us out if we got him, but I highly doubt that. Than again, who knows. Stranger things have happened.

In yahoo's article about it, Peppers was quoted as saying he wants to play in the 3-4 to utilize his talents more. How many teams run the 3-4? I know the Browns do but I'm sure any of them would love to pick up Peppers.

Off the top I know the Ravens, Patriots, Chargers, Steelers, Cowboys, Jets, 49ers, and Browns use the 3-4. If Peppers goes to any of those teams it would be a big boost because they're all already good defenses... I'd say the team that needs him the most is San Francisco.

And our biggest weakness on defense is Defensive End. Also it's not too far from Carolina and I'm sure he wants to win. Never know...

I never said anything about where to go, I simply stated which team could use him the most :p
SD's biggest weakest is also DE, Igor Olshansky got pushed around like a b!tch all season long, wouldn't be surprised to see him cut. Having Peppers opposite of Luis Castillo, and rushing with Shawne Merriman, and Phillips... :umm: Only dreams of course, only time will tell.

He may test the market, but he'll be comin back to Carolina. He's spent his whole career there, and I'd be shocked to see him sign elsewhere.

Carolina will make the wise business decision & place that franchise tag on Peppers. The Panthers will then try and find a team willing to give up 2 first round picks for him and even if they can't...he's still theirs for 1 last season and who knows, he could change his mind about where he wants to finish his career.

I don't care what happens. I just want to see Peppers stay as a Carolina Panther for the rest of his career.

He's such a <Censored>...

Wants to leave and reach his full potential?

This <Censored>ing retard had 2.5 sacks last year, and we didn't give up on him.

This year, he had a CAREEER HIGH in sacks.

What makes him think he'll do better in a 3-4? 3-4 DE's don't get sacks - they play the run.

And just a side note: I'd love for him to stay here, and I might cry if he leaves.

And also another note: San Fran switched to a 4-3 when Singletary took over.
