The Washington Redskins have released running back Shaun Alexander after four games and 11 carries with the team.

The 31-year-old former league MVP had provided insurance while injuries prevented Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts from practicing.

Portis and Betts continue to battle through injuries, but the Redskins apparently felt they needed Alexander's roster spot to help with depth on the defensive line.

Hasn't been the same since breaking his foot a couple years ago.

hey, I've been hoping for the Lions to start playing well. Just saying, if he wants a job, the way he's being dropped by teams right now, his best shot MAY be Detroit. Get a veteran in there to straighten those guys out a bit... actually that'd be a new coach. But still, get him somewhere.

Once you all get to know me a bit more, you'll see that the thing I hate the most is Careers ending due to injury. Priest Holmes used to be my favorite player...

Oh yes, I really dispised Shawn Merriman hit on Priest Holmes. Holmes was awesome to watch for sure.

I enjoyed Alexander's run in the NFL, but this man is just far from making a comeback and being one of the elite. He is nothing more than a backup on the depth chart. I thought Detroit would make a run for him, at least, it wasn't the Steelers. Oh the misery that would of been.
