Though Wednesday marked his first practice with his new team, all indications from Detroit are that Culepper will make his on-the-field debut with the Lions this Sunday.
The Lions coaching staff remained 'mum' on Culpepper's role this week in practice, as well as his role heading into Sunday's game versus Jacksonville, however much talk coming from the locker room points towards Culpepper emerging as the Lions' starting QB right away.
Head Coach Rod Marinelli would not disclose to the media exactly how many starting snaps were shared between Culpepper and Drew Stanton in practice...however team captain Cory Redding was one of several players to indicate that Daunte would be thrown into the fire right away.
"We're throwing him in the fire right away," Redding told the media. "I feel like it's something he can handle because he's been in this league long enough. It's like riding a bike."
Culpepper was given a playbook immediately after signing his 2-year deal with the Lions. Though Culpepper is trying to absorb as much of the Lions' offense in a few days as he can, there's no doubt that his inexperience with it would limit Detroit's offensive attack.
On the flip side, Dan Orlovski is now walking around with a soft cast on and the team doesn't seem confident in Drew Stanton at all. -AE
