BEREA, Ohio -- Quarterback Derek Anderson has been benched by the Cleveland Browns, who will start popular backup Brady Quinn on Thursday night against the Denver Broncos.

The switch was confirmed Monday by the team, just hours after coach Romeo Crennel said he had no plans to make a change.

Anderson, who has been inconsistent this season, threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown in the final minutes of Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The pick prompted Browns fans to begin chants of "Brady! Brady!" for Quinn, the former Notre Dame star who has thrown just eight passes in two seasons.
He is starting because we lost the last game, and the reason we lost is because Edwards dropped an easy deep ball Touchdown. So Anderson can thank Edwards for his lost job. Hopefully Quinn is efficient and can throw a little down field, because when I see him in the pre-season he just throws dump offs.

I'm excited to see what he can do.
He may be a Brown, but he is one of my favorite college football players of all time.

I think its overdue, I think he should have been benched the week after we played the Browns.

Risky move though, many QBs are bench and then come back and are never the same... except for Jeff Garcia

WOW! That really sucks for Derek Anderson the kid can definitely play, Anderson knew this was coming. In my opinion so far Anderson is better for what I have seen in off-season practices and stuff, Anderson is more accurate. I wish Derek Anderson can getting a starting job in Tampa Bay, that would be a great place for him and Tampa Bay would love him, hell he could be a starter there next year for sure. Jeff Garcia is retiring next year anyways so Derek Anderson would be a perfect fit!

lol, he has not been better. he was great last year, but has been terrible this year. However, the dropped passes by his receivers hasn't helped him out.

I'll give Quinn the rest of the season, see how he does. it may take a year or two, that's kinda what we saw with Eli Manning. He started terrible, but it took time for him to develop... then of course he had the Manning name on his back and was in NYC.

So Anderson isn't better? And Quinn hasn't even played a snap in an NFL regular season game? And right away you say Anderson isn't better, wow that's kinda sad. Anderson is a good quarterback he needs wide-outs that can catch the ball, he makes great throws! His wide-outs just can't catch.

the way you worded it, I thought u meant that he was better than last season

And ya, I think Quinn IS more accurate, because obviously Anderson hasnt gotten the job done. So, maybe his guys cant catch it, but maybe its the freaken way hes throwing it, idk. Maybe it's chemistry with the WR's. Idk, I cant explain it. All I know is its not working, and they've gotta turn to something else.

No suprise here. The Browns were expected to be one of the elite teams this year with just missing the playoffs last year. With WR`s to throw to, great running game and a little bit of everything from Josh Cribbs. Definately not the case this year. Maybe Quinn will help them bounce back and make something happen, maybe not, but I mean really, what could it hurt.
