Chargers QB Philip Rivers: In total command

The NFL MVP thus far this season is San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.

No quarterback has a better command of his team than Rivers. A first-class leader, Rivers has catapulted the Chargers out of a 0-2 start. They are 3-3 and trail Denver by one game in the AFC West.

The Chargers are coming off their best overall game of the season, a 30-10 win over the New England Patriots. While the Chargers as a whole have been inconsistent, Rivers has been outstanding all season.

At 26, he is becoming one of the game's best all-around players. With key offensive players LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Nick Hardwick, Marcus McNeill and Chris Chambers dealing with injuries this season, Rivers still has led the offense beautifully.

Rivers, who is coming off a torn ACL in his knee suffered in the 2007 postseason, has among the best individual numbers in the NFL despite the team's issues. His passer rating of 109.4 leads the league. His 14 touchdown passes is tied for the league lead and he has thrown only four interceptions.

This is your NFL MVP.

^ Yeah...through Week 6.

Still plenty of football left to play.

Ultimately what hurts Rivers is the fact that he is still playing in the shadow of Ladanian Tomlinson, who always receives most of the credit for San Diego's offense being productive. That article is the opinion of one NFL journalist...not a voter.

I cant see who voted for who, anyone would have guessed since you posted an article praising Rivers and theres 2 votes for him, and one guy already said he voted for Rivers, it isnt crazy to think you were the other voter.

Like I said, nobody said he wasnt good. But you keep saying he doesnt have the targets.. he has LT arguably one of the best RB's of all-time. Gates one of the top TE's in the league. And you say he doesnt have targets.

I'm talking about Wide-outs buddy.

And answer my other post, like you said "Facts are simple. Ben has a Ring, so does Eli..." So answer my post how does that mean you are automatically a better QB then the other guy who hasn't won a ring.

And Dan Marino is a PERFECT example, Dan is one of the best QB's in NFL history he is a TOP 5 QB without a doubt.

LT is maybe 5% healthy. Gates isn't 100%... 3/5 of the Chargers' o-line have either missed games, or been game-time decisions multiple times. Chris Chambers has hardly played... Philip has done remarkably in not so desirable circumstances in these first 6 games.

HAHA. I wouldnt say 5%. And plus, aside from this season at any point in his career, he's had defenses looking at LT, not him. That's why hes done as good as he has.

Targets are targets, you cant exclude Gates and LT b/c they arent WR's. You said Rivers doesnt have the targets Eli and Ben have.

Ill say you got me with the Marino post.

Doesnt take away from the fact he has them.

This is been the only year Rivers has had to pull the load, and he's done well. But fact is their underachieving. Injuries or not thats something a team has to deal with.

@ Dez,

So I guess you aren't going to comment on my Dan Marino post! Because you know I'm right.

That's bull! If you don't think team study Philip then you are crazy. The whole NFL knows who LT is and they know what he can do now, so why study him and <Censored>? On the other hand NFL teams are more and more studying Philip because he always does something different.
