Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant has decided against having surgery to repair damage in his right pinkie finger, according to Associated Press.

He opted not to have surgery after discovering that the recovery time following the procedure could be 12 weeks.

Los Angeles opens training camp on Sept. 27, while the 2008-09 season kicks off Oct. 28 against Portland.

i was really hoping he had surgery, but he has good judgement when it comes to his body.
he played the final 4 moths of the season and olympics with it so he is used to it.
i understand why he isnt having it either, 12 weeks would cut into the season and we cant afford that. this team is on a mission.
i think we'll be fine. he wont be playing as many minutes this season because of all the blowouts we will have :p and because Sasha has spent the entire summer working out like a maniac. he's gonna be the best possible back-up for a league leading scorer
we'll be fine

Well, if the Olympics weren't this year then he could've gotten it taken care of. Oh well, maybe he'll get it done next off-season... I just hope it can't get any worse and he doesn't go down mid-season. I doubt it will get worse, but anything is possible.

Are you trying to say that Sasha won't be on and off like he was last year?! Lol that'd be a huge improvement.

i'm just being optomistic
but seriously, Sasha has been working out this summer like crazy. His trainers even want him to take it easy because he was going to hard. He wants to justify his contract and he wants to be the best shooter in the NBA.

I am a little nervous about this decision by Kobe. I honestly think he could have gone 10 weeks without playing basketball and come back without an injury in his pinky. I just pray to god he doesn't break it or sustain a much more serious injury. I mean I can't depend on just Pau and Lamar to lead the Lakers. Without Kobe we're no more then a 45-49 game winning team if that. That isnt good enough in the West.

Ive been a Lakers fan for like 12 yrs now! Only reason I care for Boston was cause of Sebastian... Now he's gone. Boston sports are so overrated. The <Censored>ing pride around here is god damn ridiculous. Thats why I hate them so much.

Are you kidding me... Look at this season:

DAL: Dirk, JKidd, Howard, Terry (51-31)
DEN: AI, Camby, Melo, KMartin (50-32)
GSW: Bdiddy, Jackson, Monte (48-34)

I honestly don't think LA could keep up with how deep the west is this year seriously. Portland is on the rise and the finished 41-41. Just think if Kobe goes down, Pau is really soft in the post when he plays in the NBA, if he played with passion like he did in the Olympics I be fine, Odom we never know if he is going to be fine or if he'll sustain an injury. He is consistent but not consistent enough. Kobe opens up so much more for the team and creates alot of the spacing on the floor. If he drives teams tend to double down. Think Im a dumbass but I've dont the research. And Bynum is still young and is coming off a serious injury.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Kobe being a dumba$$ for not getting surgery.

and i bet if he did have surgery you would say something like "there he is being selfish. he's gonna sit out a month for himself. he doesnt care about the team he only cares about himself. he's putting the teams season in jeopardy" > _>

They could stay afloat for a month... The team gains by having Bryant have surgery.

OK honestly, I think Kobe knows what he's doing. This isn't like the Merriman injury at all. If he thinks it would be in the best interest of his team for him to wait till next offseason, then so be it. I just don't want him blaming any possible free throw shooting problems on it. He was a horrible free throw shooter late last year (and in the olympics).

I don't even see how this injury even effects him. Ever since he's had this "injury" he's been doing monstrous dunks directly with the hand the pinky is injured on. He is either extremely dumb for doing them or the injury just does not effect his game.

I think hes just extremely dumb for doing them. He's prolly increasing the chances of re-injuring that pinky by doing those dunks.
