The Atlanta Falcons officially have named rookie Matt Ryan the starting quarterback for the commencement of the 2008 regular season. "We have evaluated Matt through OTAs, mini-camp, training camp and over the course of three preseason games," head coach Mike Smith said. "After reviewing Matt's progress, we feel like he has won the starting job." Ryan, the third overall pick in the 2008 draft, beat out Chris Redman and Joey Harrington. "I think you have to take starting in stride and keep working hard the same way I have been," Ryan said. "I will keep doing what I have done to get to this point. It is only the beginning. I am excited to get things started."

I'm glad. No point in putting Redman or Harrington in at all.

But theres always the chance that the staff wants him to learn the playbook 100% first and end up holding him back until mid-way through the season.

VC thats exactly what I was gonna say...again.

If you didn't know he was gonna start in ATL, then you don't know football. Did his salary mean anything to you guys???

Theres no such thing as "the chance" here...it was common knowledge O.O

Guess I have no football knowledge since I wasn't 100% sure he would be the starter.

He's a pro-style QB. He has all of the ability in the world to be a great quarterback. I think he will be a solid starter if not better.

You also think Jimmy clausen will be beastly too and we disagree. I hope he does well. I just think other qb's will be better than him in the long run
