Not the best decision IMO, especially when Avery Johnson and Flip Saunders (who I thought would be a great fit) are available.

And a mod needs to move this to the Bulls thread....

Avery Johnson might have been an okay choice but dude will probably sit out a season and collect his free money.

I don't really like Flip that much being that he was the Pistons coach for years, but he probably wouldn't have been a bad choice.

Vinny is kind of an eccentic pick for Paxson since he's been looking for 6 or 7 weeks. I seriously doubt this is the guy he had in mind when he started his search.

I think it would have been a WAYYYY better idea to wait until the Finals were over and take another good look at Kurt Rambis or Tom Thibodeou who are more than qualified to be the new breath of fresh air in Chicago.

Who knows though, maybe it'll all work out. I just wonder how well the roster will respond to a rookie coach.

I was hoping this would happen. Pretty happy to see Vinny D as the coach.

I'm starting to be optimistic (even a little excited) about this. This was definitely a better pick than Dwane Casey or Chuck Person. Bahhh I can't wait until the NBA draft.

So you want the Bulls to pick Mike Beasley and you think Vinny Del Negro was a good hire? :headsmack:

I honestly don't see why we couldn't have waited another week or two to interview the assistants on Boston or LA, since we have already waited this long. Was somebody else going to come in and take Del Negro away from us, I don't think so... Maybe Del Negro can do good as the coach, but not knowing a thing about how he will coach the team (since he has no experience) and since we had been hearing names like D'Antoni and Collins, I'm a little unhappy. We better bring in some assistant coaches with experience, since last season the players proved they don't have much respect for inexperienced coaches and can turn on you fast.

Yeah I do agree with you there; I believe that's what they should do and what they're probably going to try to do.

But I don't see the problem in wanting to draft Michael Beasley.

There's nothing wrong with drafting Beasley. The man is a proven scorer and hands down the best player in the draft. If they take Beasley (which I don't think they will), I think he would work out but they'd have to get rid of Deng or Gooden. Beasley would make an immediate impact on team, where as with Rose, it's probably going to take a few years to develop into "the next Chris Paul".

Beasley or Rose will be a great pick for the Bulls. They NEED a low post scorer, Beasley can do that. They already have 2 pretty good PGs, just cause Hinrich had an off year last year, doesn't mean he's complete trash.

This hiring is all a fraud trust me. It's just a hilarious joke.

Kirk Hinrich isn't really considered a true point guard by many people around the league and I'm not sure who the second "good PG" is, please fill me in. I hope you aren't talking about Chris Duhon, because he is horrible and is also a free agent, so he won't be with the team next season.

As for why picking Rose is a much better option than picking Beasley... We've seen that point guards can make a huge impact on a team, just look at Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Now, Derrick Rose has much more hype coming into the draft than either of these two guys did and I wouldn't be surprised to see him shine right out of the gate. I'm not saying he's gonna be putting up 20 points and 8 assists as a rookie, but I don't think it's gonna take him 2-3 years to develop like it was said here.

Taking Rose also allows us to ship out guys like Hinrich, Gordon and Hughes, who might actually have some trade value. I'm not saying we trade all three of them, but keeping maybe one of them to play behind Sefolosha and Rose would be a good decision (I'd prefer to keep Gordon, but that is probably unlikely - Hughes would probably be the guy we keep). I would think Ben Gordon or Kirk Hinrich would be able to get us a solid low post scorer, something we've needed for sometime now, and something I don't think Michael Beasley is.

Beasley, while he is capable of putting up 20 and 10, isn't really a true low post scorer IMO. I see him more as a Carmelo Anthony type of player, who will be a great NBA scorer, just not neccessarily a low post threat. He was able to score down low in college, because of his strength, well, the PF in the NBA are a lot stronger, for example Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Elton Brand, etc. If we take Beasley, that means the guys we'd have to trade are guys like Drew Gooden and I don't see him having the same trade value as Gordon or Hinrich. I also think Gooden did a decent job last year, so I really don't think it would be a good idea to trade him.

Either way, Rose or Beasley, you're going to get a great player, I just think Rose is the better fit for this team.

I really think he's going to be alright. If he wasn't a former player, I would be very skeptical.

I agree with BKS. Beasley wont be a PF in the NBA he's gonna play SF.

But at the same time, you said "pg's make huge impacts on their team" this is true, BUT they all have some low post threat to compliment them. Something the Bulls lack.

After watching the press conference, I'm going to have to say that Vinny is an impressive speaker. Whether Pax was scraping the bottom of the coaching barrel or not, he seems really sold on this guy, and not out of desperation. Good luck to him, he's gonna need it.

I also said that the Bulls would trade some of their extra guards for a low post threat. ;)
