MIAMI -- The Dallas Cowboys traded linebacker Akin Ayodele and tight end Anthony Fasano to the Miami Dolphins for a fourth-round draft pick, a person familiar with the deal said Friday.

The person didn't want to be identified because the Dolphins and Cowboys hadn't confirmed the trade. The Dolphins have repeatedly tapped the Dallas pipeline since the arrival of former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells in December to run Miami's football operations.

The draft pick is No. 100 overall Saturday. The Dolphins have eight other picks and will use the No. 1 overall choice to take tackle Jake Long, who has already signed a five-year contract worth $57.75 million, $30 million of it guaranteed.

Ayodele has been a starter for the past five seasons and made 55 tackles last year. His spot with the Cowboys may be filled by Zach Thomas, acquired after the Dolphins released him in February.

Fasano, a second-round pick in 2006, has made 14 receptions in each of his first two NFL seasons and is expected to contend for a starting job with the Dolphins.

Miami will still be looking to upgrade in the draft at quarterback, cornerback, defensive end, guard and receiver.
good trade for Cowboys, especially since Zach Thomas needed a place to play.. now, they can address other positions with basically a late 3rd (since it's #1 overall in 4th)

I love this trade for my Dolphins. Going in, we had 5 picks in the 1st 4 rounds, and we needed to address LT, CB, WR, TE, QB, ILB, and maybe DE/OLB if Jason Taylor is traded. The #1 overall pick was used on a LT, great move there. That leaves us with 4 picks for 5 holes, and with this, we fill 2 holes with one pick. Jason Fasano was a 2nd round pick 2 years ago, and a huge target for Beck. Also, he blocks very well which should help us if our O-Line starts to look shaky. While Ayodle is still 28, hitting his "prime" and a Bill Parcells LB. Great move by Ireland, Parcells, and Co., loving what we're doing so far! Now all we need is a CB, WR, and QB.

2 QB's??? I personally want to see Beck get a lot of action this pre-season, it will say alot about him. And didn't they sign a QB in Free Agency?

What are you talking about? I said CB  :D!

No we didn't sign a QB in free agency, we have no one right about now behind Beck, I personally want to draft someone in the 3rd round to be backup to him, but we might just see Flacco/Henne be taken with the 32, which would suck big ones!

Ehh, I don't like him that much and he is really a 5th or 6th round pick. I'd rather just go with a QB in the 3rd and a CB and WR in the 2nd round (with our 2 picks). It just helps fill all our holes.

i've been reading that the dolphins and eagles talking about a lito shepperd for 2nd rd pick... interesting for both as EAGLES could use pick to get a WR

I would love this trade if it involved our 57th because it would mean all we need is a QB or WR with our 32nd and the other with our 64. I would rather see Jason Taylor for Sheppard and maybe like a 5th, but, that would be awesome as well.

the Eagles want the 32nd pick so they can get one of the top 3-4 Wideouts

That's basically a 1st round pick, I'd rather pass. I'd much rather see a Jason Taylor for Lito Sheppard type deal.

BTW - Dolphins did get a Free Agent QB - McCown.. so, QB might not be picked until really late

Forgot about McGowan but, there's plenty of reason for that. There has been lots of talk that we still need to draft a QB just in case Beck isn't what we want him to be You can't honestly tell me that McGowan can step in and be a good QB.
