Yao Ming's season is over.

Yao has a stress fracture in his left foot that likely will require season-ending surgery. Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey announced the decision on Tuesday.

The Rockets' team physician said that the injury usually requires four months to heal if it isn't treated surgically. If it's treated surgically, recovery time is from three to four months.

"This is unbelievable," Rockets owner Les Alexander told KRIV-TV in Houston. "This is the most heart-breaking. This is the worst I've felt."

Houston, currently on a 12-game winning streak, is in fourth place in the Southwest Division. The streak followed a loss in the one game that Yao has missed all season.

20-10 Players

Yao Ming is one of just six players averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds or assists per game this season.

Player PPG RPG
Yao Ming, HOU 22.0 10.8
Dwight Howard, ORL 21.8 14.5
Carlos Boozer, UTAH 21.5 10.8
Antawn Jamison, WSH 21.2 10.3
Al Jefferson, MIN 21.3 11.9
Chris Paul, NO 20.7 10.7*
*Assists per game

The 7-foot-6 Yao is averaging 22.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in 55 games this season.

Alexander said he is hoping that the Rockets roster will rally together, even without Yao.

"This is the best we've played since the championship era," Alexander told KRIV-TV. "Yao was an integral part of that."

"We have great players and hopefully they can support what Yao gave us and go deep into the playoffs."

There goes you guys' playoff hopes...

this is really to bad, b/c the Rockets are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. And starting to emerge as a "darkhorse" for the western conference playoffs.

I hope he makes a full recovery....

Que? Dwight Howard > Yao Ming.

Anyways, I still think the Rockets can make the playoffs. Obviously it will be a lot tougher though.

I agree with Dwight being better. But I really doubt theymake the playoffs.
They will have a winning record just not a playoff record.

best center -debateable

howard better on def and boards
yao way better in outside shot and distribution.

Thats true but I like BIG bangers. I mean being able to shoot is a plus but they need to have a toughness to them.

Oh and I still can't find that Manu Cut lol.

Yao's inside game is just as good as Dwight's, if not better.

Dwight has an edge in rebounding and SLIGHT edge on D... Yao's offense is better at any aspect.

I'm not calling the Magic or Houston championship teams..But Defense wins championships so I'll take the slight edge that Dwight has any day.

Centers that Howard defends shoot 50%, while Yao's shoot 47%

With Dwight on the court, teams shoot 49%, and 47% off.

When Yao is on, 46%, 48% off.

I think Yao is a better man-man defender, but Dwight is more athletic which leads to the extra blocks...

On D, it's a push... Dwight has the rebounding edge, but that's playing alongside who as a big man? But still, Dwight > Yao rebounding.

Offensively, Yao blows him away in everything... except dunking.

It seems something always happens to the Rockets,

I say Dwight>Yao because Dwight is tougher. He's a better rebounder and more athletic. Yao has him offensively, but Dwight is a better dunker and can dunk on anybody which leads to about the same amount of PPG. Of course that doesnt mean Dwight shouldn't work on his offensive game b/c if he did, he would be the best player in the league.

I think he will play a big part in their (possible) future struggles, but the Rockets will still make the playoffs.
