Question is, what does Petrie see in Williams? Must like him somewhat, I personally thought he was a bust!
How can a Sophomore be a bust? He hardly even got playing time, let him develop...

well CC's just backing up his former Duke player, but I don't think he is a bust, he needs to be in the right kind of system. they just don't need his playing style in Atlanta where their big men already are defensive.

No it's not just that, it's the fact that a player can't be a bust if they've only played 1.5 years in the NBA so far...

The deals not final so it could involve more... or less.

Hmmm I think Atlanta wins this deal, but Sacramento really didn't need/want Bibby anymore, so its fine.

That would be a good deal for the Hawks, none of the players they would be sending over are averaging over 6 PPG, and theyre bringing in Bibby whos averaging 14 PPG and 5 APG. But maybe with more playing time Shelden should be able to do something, although I dont see where he will get any time considering all of the PF/C's that the Kings already have.

This move makes a move with Ron Artest easier for Petrie cuz he wont have to worr about the luxury tax onvolving Nene. Think Artest is gone before the deadline.

Yeah exactly. Best way to rebuild is through expiring contracts. Wish ppl understood that.

I cant see hwo they can keep him now. Itd just be stupid!
I believe Denver is there choice of place. Melo wants him and I think DEN will deliver. Itll take Nene, Smith, Kleiza and Najera for Artest and Thomas.

ATLANTA HAWKS ACQUIRE MIKE BIBBY FROM KINGS

ATLANTA, GA (Feb. 16, 2008) -- The Atlanta Hawks today acquired guard Mike Bibby from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Shelden Williams, Lorenzen Wright and a 2008 second round draft pick according to Hawks Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight.

“We’re happy to be able to bring in a player of Mike’s caliber,” Knight said. “He’s one of the premier point guards in the league and a proven winner going back to his college days at Arizona. His ability to score and distribute the basketball will add a new dimension to our ballclub.”

Bibby, who missed the first 36 games of the season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals (.406 FG%, .393 3FG%, .742 FT%) in 15 games (12 starts) for the Kings this year.

Now in his 10th NBA season, Bibby boasts career averages of 16.7 ppg, 6.2 apg, 3.3 rpg and 1.3 spg (.441 FG%, .371 3FG%, .806 FT%) in 690 games with the Vancouver Grizzlies (1998-2001) and Kings (2001-08). A durable player throughout his career, he has played in at least 80 games during a season seven times.

A veteran of 51 playoff games, Bibby has averaged 17.9 ppg, 5.6 apg, 3.6 rpg and 1.5 spg (.418 FG%, .366 3FG%, .836 FT%) in postseason play. He led the Kings to the Western Conference Finals in 2001-02 averaging 20.3 ppg, 5.8 apg, 3.8 rpg and 1.4 spg (.444 FG%, .424 3FG%, .826 FT%) in 16 playoff games.

“Mike is a veteran point guard who knows how to run a team,” said Hawks coach Mike Woodson. “He’ll bring a steady hand to the position and provide our club with stability, creativity and leadership. “Pairing him with Joe Johnson in the same backcourt will give us a number of options on the offensive side of things.”

Johnson, in his third tour of duty with the Hawks, is averaging 6.4 ppg, 4.7 apg, 2.3 rpg and 1.0 spg (.423 FG%, .433 3FG%, .800 FT%) in 41 games (40 starting assignments) on the season. Lue has seen action in 33 contests (three starts), averaging 6.8 ppg, 1.8 apg and 1.2 rpg (.439 FG%, .435 3FG%, .857 FT%).

Williams, the Hawks’ first round draft pick (fifth overall) in the 2006 NBA Draft, has played in 35 games with averages of 2.9 ppg and 2.9 rebounds (.354 FG%, .673 FT%). Wright is in his second stint in Atlanta and has seen time in 12 contests (one start) this year, putting up 3.1 rpg and 0.9 ppg (.250 FG%, .500 FT%).

“We will certainly miss the contributions of A.J., Tyronn, Shelden and Lorenzen,” Woodson said. All four of those guys are professionals in every sense and we wish them the best.”

Bibby was named to the 2003 Men’s National Team by USA Basketball and helped lead the United States to a 10-0 record and a gold medal at the 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Puerto Rico. Originally drafted by Vancouver in the first round of the 1998 NBA Draft (second overall), he earned Schick First-Team All-Rookie honors in 1998-99 after averaging 13.2 ppg (.430 FG%, .203 3pt%, .751 FT%), 2.7 rpg, 6.5 apg (13th in NBA), 1.56 spg (25th) in starting all 50 games.

The 6’1 guard averaged a career-high 21.1 ppg (.432 FG%, .386 3pt%, .849 FT%), 5.4 apg, 2.9 rpg, 1.00 spg, and 38.5 mpg in starting all 82 games for Sacramento in 2005-06, ranking 19th in the NBA in scoring. He dished out a career-best 8.4 apg in 2000-01 while a member of the Grizzlies.

Bibby led the University of Arizona to the NCAA Championship as a freshman (1997-98), tallying 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the Championship Game victory over Kentucky. Named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year after posting season averages of 13.5 ppg (.445 FG%, .394 3pt%, .701 FT%), 3.2 rpg, and 5.2 apg, he also earned consensus First-Team All-America honors and was named Pac-10 Player of the Year as a sophomore, averaging 17.2 ppg (.464 FG%, .387 3pt%, .755 FT%) and 5.7 apg before opting for the NBA Draft.

Michael Bibby was born May 13, 1978 in Cherry Hill, NJ. He will wear number 10 with the Hawks. His father Henry Bibby played in the NBA for nine seasons and is now an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers.
