Sure we will miss Kyle Korver's magic touch from outside the arc but are his 10 points a game and 42% shooting average worth a first-round draft pick? Apparently the Utah Jazz thought so. The fact of the matter is the bright future in Philadelphia just got a little brighter.

As I mentioned in the Utah Forum, Korver wasn't capable of being any more than a 10 PPG guy & even though his outside shot is pretty, it didn't make or break our roster. The acquisition of a 1st round draft pick, in exchange, is a pick that could land the Sixers a player who is key to the future of the team. Looking at the a few 2008 Mock drafts, the pick that we acquired from Utah is due to potentially land us some of the following:

- Tyler Smith 6-7 220 SF
- Darren Collison 6-1 170 PG
- Hasheem Thabeet 7-3 265 C
or possibly
- DeVon Hardin 6-10 240 PF

As for Gordan Giricek...looks like he was thrown in b/c Jerry Sloan was about ready to choke him out. I read that during a timeout in a game versus Charlotte, Sloan got into it with Giricek, sent him to the locker room and then sent him home for 3 games. The guy only averages 4.3 points a game in 6 years...but at 6'5...it will be interesting to see him come off the bench.

Giricek make a salary over $4M but his deal expires at the end of this season.

The trade can't really be judged until at least next year, it all depends on where the pick lies...

Yea the 1st round pick was a big part of the deal. But the Jazz will make the playoffs so its gonna be a late one. But I think Korver's shooting > Giricek's. Plus Utah has a system perfect for Korver, they need people to run around and catch and shoot.

the Jazz will probably make the playoffs, so the Sixers will probably get a pick around 20 or so. it's hard to tell who is going to drop to 20-30 overall in the draft right now. However, I don't think Thabeet would drop that far if he enters the draft. the Sixers sure could use him with their 1st round pick, though, since they will likely get a pick inside the Top 10. that is, if the Sixers still have their 1st round pick for this year.

They pulled this trade simply for the pick, sure it clears up 4 mill in cap this offseason but they're a team building for the future and mainly made this trade to get an extra pick...

And BTW, if Thabeet declares, there's no way he's Top 10. This pick will probably 18-22, although it'd be a stretch, so he could fall to them in that range if that's truly who they're going for. Most sites have him as an Early 2nd Rounder, though...

I figured the pick to be around 15-20 and if that's the case, Thabeed would still be available in my mind.

Dude, we're not criticizing you. But back to the point, why would they take him? He's not that good...

I've never even heard of him, plus they have Dalembert who is doing very well this season. And they still have Jason Smith who is young and doing pretty well.

I know, I wasn't taking any offense to anything anyone has said...I was just pointing out that I figured Utah's pick to come somewhere between 15-20 and I figured that would be about where the draftees I mentioned would be selected.

all Thabeet is, is another Sam Dalembert. No need to pick him up. You guys need a PG, IMO you should take Collison or Augustin.

Yea, they do need a PG, even though Miller is doing fine. A PF or SF could be used as well.

no need to pick up a SF, they have Thaddeus Young (gotta give em some time to develop). but they are weak at the 4.

Doesn't Philly have their 1st rounder to? So that pick there probably won't be much "falling."

Yea they still have theres but they could still make the 8 seed but I doubt it.
And if they draft Thabeet all that does is give you a player who can put down a dunk and block shot left and right.
They need a PG and a PF.
