Chicago Bulls ' Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson today announced that Scott Skiles has been relieved of his duties as the team’s head coach.

In a statement released this morning, Paxson said:

“This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was necessary at this time. Scott helped us in many ways during his time with the Bulls; most importantly, he helped this franchise get back to respectability. I am appreciative of his hard work and the imprint that he left on our team.”

At this time, no decision has been made on Skiles’ replacement. On November 28, 2003, Skiles became the fifteenth head coach in franchise history when he succeeded Bill Cartwright. Over the span of five seasons with the Bulls, he compiled a record of 165-172 (.490) and guided the team to the playoffs three consecutive years, highlighted by a first-round series sweep of the defending NBA Champion Miami Heat in the 2007 NBA Playoffs. In eight-plus seasons as a head coach in the NBA, Skiles owns a career coaching record of 281-251 (.528).

The Bulls are underachieving way too much this season and they needed a "scapegoat". I am sorry that "scapegoat" was Scott Skiles...but you know...you can't blame the high paid players, can you? Don't forget that their is little to no job security as an NBA or NHL head coach. Not unless your name is Phil Jackson or Pat Reilly.

I think Rick Carlisle would be a good fit.

arent the Bulls on a winning streak? I thought they were like 7-3 their last 10 games, oh well.....

but yea funny how he gets fired after about 27 games and Isiah should have been gone 3 years ago....

I don't know how you guys didn't see this coming.
There team is underachiving horribly and whos to blame?
Maybe the coach that downgrades his players to the media then tries to take it back ha he is an ass ..But a good coach then again I doubt he gets another job anytime soon.

And Jeff Van Gundy,Larry Brown,and Rick Crisle are prolly in the running to take over but Rick will get it most likely.

I'm glad he's gone... The players just weren't buying into his style anymore and if you look at their games against Boston and Houston last week, you can see that they just quit. As for his replacement, they might go the rest of the way with Pete Myers, so that they can get the right fit during the off-season. Right now there are only a limited amount of canidates, but during the off-season they can talk to anybody they want.
