L.A. Times -
The Lakers probably were not going to win 50 games, but Coach Phil Jackson made it semi-official Saturday.

Following practice, Jackson said he had told his players after a 127-99 win over Denver on Nov. 29 that they were not good enough to win 50 games.

As Jackson sees it, the first 15 games set the tone for the season, when teams get into habits that will last for the rest of the season. The Lakers play their 20th tonight.

"We haven't really started to do some of the other structural things we want to do with the team," said Jackson. "We need to open a run again and find a way to win two or three games in a row and get some momentum."
Haha, being really optimistic I see. We all know they aren't going to win 50, but why in the world would your coach say that to your team like that? Maybe for motovation? Kind of a stupid way for motovation if you ask me.

You're talking about Phil Jackson
The guy that made Tyronne Lue look like Allen Iverson in practice in the finals a couple years ago to motivate the team saying that they couldn't stop him. The guy that gives his team books to read about fung shui instead of practicing. Who knows what the hell is going on in his head, but over the years it has been working. Don Nelson said the same thing about the Warriors last season before the playoffs, he said they had no chance of making a run and going for it, look at what they did.

Rip, where the fcuk have you been? He has a track record of saying these things
This is Phil at his finest
He does this all the time.
It's called reverse psychology
He does this to motivate the team. And most of the time, it works.
"Hey Phil said we suck. Lets show him we dont by playing our butts off"
just an example but still....

He also said this:
Jackson said Bynum, who's averaging 10.4 points and 9.6 rebounds a game, had regressed in his fitness.
"He's gone backward since the season started," Jackson said. "He hasn't had consistent playing time and misses a game . . . it's a little bit troubling."

News of Bynum's regression, though, was news to Bynum.

"I haven't taken a step back," Bynum said. "I don't feel that way."
see, its already working

oh ok
you could tell the future I forgot. < _<
How the hell do you know they wont win 50?

Saying these things tells the team to play harder.
