RealGM Staff Report -
Seattle SuperSonics & Storm Chairman Clayton I. Bennett made the following statement on Friday regarding the future of the franchise.

"We notified Commissioner Stern that we intend to relocate the Sonics to Oklahoma City if we succeed in the pending litigation with the City, or are able to negotiate an early lease termination, or at the end of the lease term.

"We have not made a decision regarding the future location of the Seattle Storm. We appreciate the deep local interest and support for the Storm and have begun to evaluate a future course of action for the team.

"Notwithstanding the uncertainty and difficulty of this challenging time, we remain completely committed to the success of our basketball teams. We will continue to provide our players, coaches and staff the tools and support they need to be competitive."

Wow, this was a pretty stupid move by that Clay Bennett guy. A strong fan base that has been in Seattle for 41 years and you are just going to move them whenever they still provide good attendance. I wouldn't be suprised if some of the Seattle fans have something to say about this. Because I know if my team was being just packed up due to an arena issue then I would be PO'ed.

Bennett is some moron who is FROM Oklahoma so really this is just some kind of joke to him.

If I am not mistaken, same thing with the Nets...

THE NETS DIDNT GET ONE SELL OUT IN THE FINALS WITH THE SPURS OR LAKERS, and apperently NYC will help em out huge.

true dat

They aren't moving for sure yet....the owner has just filed to move the team to OK....but if they do move I don't want them to take the Sonics name....that belongs to Seattle. What I don't get is why Seattle won't build a new stadium.

when I first posted this a while ago about the possibility of them leaving, I never thought it would hapen this fast.

I feel bad for the Seattle fans but its to late for em, shoulda stayed loyal even through the bad times.

I don't really see why Oklahoma City is much of an improvement instead of moving to a place like St. Louis...

are you serious about Nets going to Brooklyn? where'd you hear it?

My bro will be pissed about it [unless he already knows] but that will be weird, I wonder if they'll keep the same colors and uniforms.

Well it is kind of dumb, but I like the fact there will be a "new team" in the league, it always excites me.

It always does to me to, but I don't consider this a new team, because they are getting rid of an old one. But I know that if Seattle loses its team, they will get one down the road.

Actually, this isn't that stupid of a move. The City of Seattle isn't really supporting the Sonics (i.e. they won't build a new Stadium), and the fan support isn't really all that great. OK City had a really good test run when they took the Hornets, and ever since then they've been on the map to get the next open NBA team. To me, this was pretty much expected to happen within the next two seasons, and as much as I hate to see them move from Seattle (only a few hours away from me here in Canada), this is probably a good move for the owner and team.

At least Oklahoma doesn't have to deal with a stingy Ray Allen, he's finally on a good team now, and isn't complaining anymore. They have something to look forward to cheer for in years to come with Durant.

Too true. They have the #5 pick as well, J.Green. Wilkins, West, Watson... they just need real big bodies, bruisers on the inside to bang with the best of them and they're good to go.

Sucks to see them leave with the great fans they have.

I can see them getting a team in the near future with the great city they have.
