Pistons' Stuckey Out 6 Weeks

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey had surgery on his broken left hand Thursday and is expected to be out for about six weeks.

The rookie from Eastern Washington injured his hand in Detroit's final exhibition game Wednesday night. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals in eight games.

Stuckey was expected to start the season next week at Miami playing a key role, primarily backing up point guard Chauncey Billups.

"This is where having Lindsey Hunter comes into play," Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said.

Hunter, who made his NBA debut with the Pistons in 1993, was expected to be a seldom-used reserve this season.

Stuckey was injured on a harmless-looking play in the third quarter of Detroit's 104-85 win over the Washington Wizards. He was fighting through a screen and got his fingers caught in a jersey.

"Obviously, I'm disappointed," he said. "I've never broken anything before, and now I'm going to have to sit out."

Well this sucks. But its not too serious.

He's never broken anything, and when he finally does he breaks something going around a screen....wow. But he's a good player and hopefully this won't affect his shot (I don't think he is a lefty).

I'm tired of these Rookies getting injured. Watching rookies play is one of my favorite parts of the NBA.

Stuckey was going to be a good player off the bench and could've avgeraged 10 points at least while getting good experience. About the time he comes back the Pistons should be a few games back from the Bulls and he could possibly help the Pistons overcome the hump.
