Yankees internally discussing free agent Manny Ramirez
Here’s a juicy one. Well, sorta.

Jack Curry of the YES Network heard from a source Thursday that the Yankees have engaged in “internal chats” about free agent slugger Manny Ramirez.

The Yanks are trying to add a quality bat to their bench and have also looked into signing free agent Johnny Damon. But, as Curry speculates, a deal seems unlikely to happen with either of the AL East veterans.

Manny probably still wants regular playing time and Damon is in the same boat. As of now, the Yankees have committed the everyday designated hitter role to Jorge Posada and the everyday left field job to Brett Gardner.

Unless something changes, don’t look for Manny to don the pinstripes in 2011.

Is it even possible that Manny agrees to cut off the dreds in order to wear pinstripes? I fucking hope not. I'd love to have some of Manny's bat in the DH spot but even I have grown to love the swag that is "ManRam". The Yankees will continue this search for bench upgrades but they've gotta stop wasting time on these older hitter who still feel like they've got enough in the tank to be more than just roleplayers.

Many has to wake up and smell the coffee, he is no longer his 30 year old self, his prime is done.

Would be a decent bench pick up though.

Manny is better than a bench player. He hit .300 with a .400 OBP last season. That's good enough to be a DH.

RBIs are meaningless, Manny hit .310 with RISP. His HR totals did dip a bit but he only had 265 ABs. His HRs would have been more towards 20 if he had more ABs. He's still above average with the stick.

I think Manny would suit the powerbat-needy A's or the attention-needy Blue Jays best. Oakland has some decent baserunners atop of their lineup and with Cust gone, Manny would fit right into the DH role. Manny has also expressed interest in playing in Toronto & the Jays could really use this guy to sell tickets and torment the AL East.

How do u know that? I really don't think Jays were even close to getting Greinke at all. Matter of fact I think all the Greinke stuff was just pure speculation IMO. Plus Toronto was one of the teams that was in his no trade list. I love AA and all but at some point u need to step up and get a guy who can make the team better.

The Jays were supposedly not willing to give up Travis Snider or Kyle Drabek, so they had no shot at Greinke.
